Job Description

Position Summary

The Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Medical Director is a member of the health center leadership team and provides leadership, guidance and motivation to ensure the best environment for quality patient-centered care. The MAT Medical Director is responsible for the oversight of all medical care and quality of services provided through PrimeCare’s MAT clinics.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Works directly with the MAT Clinic Coordinator, Care Coordinator, Substance Use Disorder Therapist and medical providers to ensure a patient-centered, productive and efficient MAT clinic.
  2. Manages the medical care and quality of services provided at the MAT clinic.
  3. Participates as a prescribing MAT provider in 1.5 sessions per week minimum.
  4. Serves as a role model for professionalism, productivity and service to the community.
  5. Collaborates with the MAT Clinic Coordinator and other clinic staff to address issues related to; work flow, patient care, patient concerns, and incidents.
  6. Acts as medical liaison to the Residency program for the Resident MAT related training.
  7. On-boards/orients new provider staff.
  8. Supervises and evaluates MAT Clinic providers.
  9. Fosters a professional working relationship amongst all members of the health care team.
  10. Communicates with providers regarding: quality initiatives, policies and procedures.
  11. Works directly with the MAT Clinic Coordinator to ensure administrative and program continuity.
  12. Attends regularly scheduled meetings with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Behavioral Health Officer.
  13. Supports productivity goals.
  14. Participates in the implementation and carrying out of continuous quality improvement programs and activities at the clinic as appropriate.
  15. Designs agendas and facilitates quarterly meetings with MAT provider staff.
  16. Collaborates in the development and periodic review of written clinical policies, guidelines and protocols for the functioning of the clinic and responsibilities of the clinicians.
  17. Assists, where required, in the education and training of staff.
  18. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  1. Interest in working with patients struggling with substance misuse.
  2. Ability to work as a team player/member.
  3. Ability to relate to diverse groups of people.
  4. Ability to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and decisions.
  5. Ability to identify and maintain agency and patient confidential information.

Physical Demands

  1. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  1. Must be able to move around the clinic site 50% of the time.
  2. Constantly operates a computer, computer printer, copy machine, and telephone.
  3. Occasionally positions self to maintain exertion of physical strength to move objects of 10 pounds from one level to another.
  4. Must be able to transport from one site to another.
  5. Must be able to cover other shifts as necessary
  6. Ability to move as needed to perform necessary nursing skills such as wound care, injections, and other procedures.

Required Knowledge, Experience, or Licensure/Registration

  1. Graduate of accredited medical school with degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) or Advanced Practice Clinician program (Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant).
  2. MD or DO completion of Accredited Residency.
  3. Board certification in specialty, if newly graduated must be obtained within 2 years of graduation, must be kept current.
  4. Current and active license to practice in the State of Illinois.
  5. Current DEA certificate without restriction.
  6. Current prescriber’s waiver to prescribe Buprenorphine products.
  7. Minimum of 3 years’ experience preferred as a provider in a primary care setting.
  8. Current and active CPR certification.
