Job Description

The Marketing and Communications division of the American College of Physicians (ACP) is seeking an experienced writer and project coordinator for the role of Public Relations Associate. ACP, a national organization of internal medicine physicians with headquarters in Philadelphia, is the largest medical specialty organization and the second-largest physician group in the United States with more than 161,000 members worldwide. This is a hybrid position with 2 days per week in-office required.

Reporting to ACP’s Media Relations Manager, the Public Relations Associate will assist in implementing and supporting a wide range of public relations projects and programs related to the organization’s clinical, educational, advocacy, membership development, and regulatory efforts. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Drafting original written content/materials for a wide range of audiences in a variety of formats, such as press releases, newsletter articles, talking points, member communications, speeches/presentations, etc.
  • Working with management to develop project plans, and overseeing project progress and timelines to ensure goals are met
  • Editing and proofreading content from other departments, ensuring quality, accuracy, and brand consistency across communications
  • Assisting with the development and production of the ACP Advocate newsletter, including content planning, securing approvals, vendor management, troubleshooting with technical staff, and distribution
  • Distributing press releases to media outlets and ACP web platforms
  • Occasional travel to ACP’s Washington, DC office

Qualified candidates will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience, including public and media relations and communications across a variety of platforms and channels.
  • Strong organizational, project management, writing, and editing skills. Familiarity with AP style strongly preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail, along with the ability to successfully manage shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the US healthcare system and medical terminology a plus.
