Job Description

Job Title: Crew Supervisor Reports to: Recycling Coordinator and Urban Projects Manager Status: Full-time non-exempt at-will employment Hours: Primary work hours 6:45a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and some weekends and evenings as needed.

 

Organization Summary

The Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps (SRCC) is a non-profit organization established in 1984 by the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. The mission of the SRCC is to enrich the lives of young adults by providing a development program integrating education, job skills training, and work experience on conservation projects and service opportunities that benefit the region and our corpsmembers. The SRCC is funded by a variety of state and local government agencies, foundations, corporate grants, sponsorships and private donations for work projects. The SRCC Board of Directors is comprised of volunteer community leaders and business professionals. The SRCC corpsmembers (participants in the combined work and education program) and cadets (participants in the full day education academy) are representatives of our diverse community and most participants are economically, educationally, and socially challenged. Position Summary

 

The Crew Supervisor is responsible for the professional and consistent operation of SRCC crews. The primary responsibilities of the Crew Supervisor are as follows:

· Be a mentor and coach to corps members.

· Overall supervision of corpsmembers ages 18-25 including training and supervision of use of SRCC equipment and tools. These include but not limited to forklift, compactors, basic hand tools, power tools, and vehicles.

· Keep SRCC equipment and facilities clean, safe, and operable.

· Track and manage data and accurately complete daily reports.

· Work safely with little direct supervision.

· Interact professionally with project partners, the public, corps members, and staff.

· Work closely with other SRCC staff and fill-in and assist as necessary.

· Some knowledge of the flora common to the Sacramento region as well as invasive species.

· Sound knowledge of the operation and servicing of all basic hand and power landscaping tools.

· Safe vehicle operation (including driving with a trailer) and daily routine maintenance checks of vehicle and trailer.

· Willingness to operate Recycling program equipment including but not limited to forklifts, compactors, Toter lifters, Electronic waste, and a beverage container sorting line. for the safe and accurate handling and sorting of collected materials.

· Proficient with Excel, Word, Outlook, and other computer programs.

· Willingness to fill in as a Recycling Supervisor as needed.

 

Essential Functions

· Develop the professional skills of corpsmembers so that they understand the broad issues related to safety, professionalism, accuracy, and pride in their work.

· Maintain SRCC equipment, vehicles, and buildings.

· Visually inspect tools, equipment, vehicles, or machines (e.g. to identify defects).

· Oversee that regular maintenance is performed on all equipment and that adequate supplies are on hand.

· Oversee roll call and attendance for corps members.

· Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds with or without assistance.

· Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift.

· Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand eye coordination.

· Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.

· Move through narrow, confined, or elevated spaces.

· Move up and down stairs and/or service ramps.

 

Position Obligations and Responsibilities

The Crew Supervisor is responsible for the overall supervision of SRCC corpsmembers, fleet, and customer service related to the work projects assigned to the SRCC by contracts or work agreements, providing quality, reliable, and appropriate customer service. Specific duties for the position include the following:

· Report for work as assigned; Morning start time is 6:45AM. Roll call for corpsmembers begins promptly at 7:00 AM unless another time is designated and noted.

· Responsible for assigned vehicle(s), equipment, tool trailer and tools, customer relations with project sponsor and clients, and information for and from the crew each day.

· Responsible for the condition of the equipment and information. Equipment and information might include a phone or two-way radio, keys for each vehicle, and paperwork (vehicle inspection forms, maps, and contact information, etc.).

· Ensure that SRCC vehicle(s) are fueled up for/at/by the beginning of work each day.

· Ensure that all paperwork is filled out completely and turned into the designated staff on time. Typical paperwork includes Crew Roster, Daily Report Form, Vehicle Inspection Form, Tailgate Safety Meeting Report, and Corpsmember Monthly Evaluations Forms

· Check for proper functioning of the Crew Vehicle tracking system (weekly or bi-weekly)

 

Additional Requirements

 

· Must demonstrate enthusiasm, flexibility, and willingness for work assignments; Supervisors schedules may change based upon the business needs of our contracts and partnerships.

· Must be at least 21 years of age.

· Must have California Class C driver’s license, and be able to obtain a valid passenger endorsement within 60 days of employment plus validation of driving record and insurability; candidate also must have own auto in operable condition that will be required for use as part of the job.

· Pass a substance screen test.

· Must have a high school diploma; some college-level education is preferred.

· Must have familiarity with internet, email, Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.

· Must have good communication and public relations skills both oral and written.

· Show a high level of dependability, accountability, and responsibility; positive self-attitude, self-discipline and professional courtesy; full participation as a member of SRCC staff in terms of collaboration, cooperation, and support of fellow staff members.

Position Summary

The SRCC Weekend Recycling Crew Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the weekend recycling operations. This includes servicing events at various locations and the collection and sorting of beverage container recyclable material, e-waste, waste tire and as needed do storm drain stenciling, and used oil collection center site visits throughout SRCC service area.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Weekend Recycling Crew Supervisor is responsible for the overall supervision of the recycling staff, SRCC corpsmembers, fleet and customer service related to weekend recycling activities.

Specific duties and responsibilities of the Weekend Recycling Crew Supervisor are varied. The Weekend Recycling Crew Supervisor must:

· Participate in and manage the daily roll call for SRCC work crews at the Main Campus.

· Understand how to manage fleet including the preparation of driver routes, customer service training for drivers, accident and injury reports, emergency/field response.

· Manage and maintain frequent, regular and reliable contact and communication with crews.

· Develop relationships with existing clients in order to provide quality customer service; develop new clients, accounts and sources.

· Perform a variety of related duties depending on Recycling Program’s needs.

Proficiencies/Critical Skills

· Supervision, observation, reliability, and time management.

· Understands the needs and circumstances of at-risk and high-risk young adults.

· Demonstrates sensitivity, understanding, firmness, empathy and understanding with staff and corpsmembers from diverse ethnic, socio-economic and scholastic and cultural backgrounds.

· Excellent and audience-appropriate communication skills, both oral and written, characterized by active listening and respectful two-way communications/interactions.

· High level of dependability, accountability, and responsibility; positive self-attitude, self-discipline and professional courtesy; full participation as member of SRCC staff in terms of collaboration, cooperation and support of fellow staff members.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

· High school diploma and some college. Preference will be given to candidates with a college degree and/or recycling, conservation or other environmental expertise.

· Pass a drug screen test.

· California Class C driver’s license plus validation of driving record and insurability.

· Must obtained passenger endorsement within 60 days of hire.

· Minimum 40 hours per week of work with some overtime hours. Must be flexible in work assignments; though this is a weekend position, sometimes this position is required to serve on other projects/contracts/clients on weekday shifts.

· Detail-oriented with the ability to work with a variety of personalities and skill levels.

· Demonstrate enthusiasm, flexibility, and willingness for the job functions.

· Excellent communications skills with audience-appropriate skills, both oral and written characterized by active listening and respectful two-way communications/interactions.

· General computer skills using PC formats SRCC Certification for Box and Stake Truck driving (14-to-16-foot length vehicles) within 30 days of hire.

· Must be at least 21 years of age.
