Job Description

COMPANY OVERVIEW: (Confidential) Design-Build Construction company. The company is privately owned and has been in operation for over 75 years. $25M in Sales with a Strong Growth Outlook.

POSITION TITLE: Chief Financial Officer

COMPENSATION: Competitive base salary of $125,000 to $150,000 + bonus potential

BENEFITS: Full benefits package

LOCATION: Hartford, Connecticut

Reporting to the CEO and Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Financial Officer will serve as an integral member of the Executive Management Team and be responsible for the planning, implementation, management, and running of all the company's finance and accounting-related activities. The CFO will also develop the company’s financial management strategy and be a key contributor to the organization’s strategic goals.

The CFO is a vital member of the company leadership team. The CFO is ultimately responsible for and has authority over the company's financial and budgetary aspects, providing strong, direct, and timely leadership to colleagues and company personnel.

The CFO must be a confident leader who can take the initiative, interact well with others, positively implement changes, maintain composure under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, be flexible and decisive, communicate effectively, and set the example for respectful professional relationships within the company and with all clients.

The CFO will be responsible for daily corporate accounting procedures including employee supervision, employee development, A/P, A/R, collection, payroll, purchasing, banking, contract review and approval, auditing, and corporate reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or equivalent experience in the field of financial management.
  • 5+ years of experience within the construction industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of Sage 300 Accounting Software or similar accounting systems.
  • Thorough understanding of job cost accounting.
  • Excellent organizational, supervisory, and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of “extreme ownership”, which relates to a high degree of selflessness and willingness to be hands-on and ensure clear, concise, and respectful communication to all members of the company.
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administrative initiatives.
  • Exceptional and impeccable written, oral, analytical, interpersonal and presentation

Essential Duties

  • Perform required accounting functions of the company in a timely and accurate manner
  • Provide reports and schedules to the CEO and Controller
  • Perform project and program budgeting/planning, financial reporting, and analysis functions
  • Communicate routinely with the Executive Management Team
  • Liaison between operational and finance functions, as needed
  • Ability to execute all accounting functions and procedures
  • Maintain monthly cash flow and billing forecast, SOV
  • Maintain monthly accrual and forecasting schedule as required. Communicate with the Executive Management team to update the forecast schedule
  • Build invoice schedules and produce project invoices accurately and timely
  • Actively participate in individual and consolidated project reporting and analysis, including ROM budget, monthly accruals, monthly forecasting, and variance reports
  • Manage project-specific cash flow
  • Prepare job-costing reports
  • Assist with creating new accounting/operations procedures to prepare and manage rapidly growing entities and evolving business structure
  • Manage process for data collection, reporting, and communication
  • Oversees and directs audit and tax activities for the organization.
  • Support strategies for automation and simplification of reporting processes while preserving data integrity
  • Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the other members of the Executive Team informed of all critical issues.
  • Maintain a high degree of integrity, loyalty, and honesty; not divulge to outside parties information of a confidential nature pertaining to the company's operations.
