Summary:

A Consumer Product Compliance Specialist is a skilled staff position with responsibility to support the Regulatory Affairs department. The incumbent conducts research projects and performs key functions in product hazard classification, safety data sheet and label authoring for the company’s consumer brands. Provides Regulatory Affairs framework to stakeholders throughout the company and applies analytical skill to complete duties as assigned. This position is a full-time, hybrid remote work opportunity that requires the aptitude of a conscientious, structured, meticulous person with productive work ethics.

Duties:

  • Support Regulatory Affairs and Sales & Marketing liaison staff in the compliant placement of chemical consumer products in both current and future domestic and international markets.
  • Develop and apply expertise in hazard classification, safety data sheet and label authoring, and consumer product regulations across multiple markets to achieve objectives across the Regulatory Affairs, Research and Development, and Sales and Marketing functions.
  • Complete product-related customer requests and assessments, certifications, reports, permit renewals, research projects or other support projects as assigned via a helpdesk system.
  • Review and apply requirements set out in United States Code, the Code of Federal Regulations; read and interpret Federal Register information and otherwise maintain a current understanding of requirements which impact international markets the Company serves.
  • Maintain clear communication with suppliers to build and maintain as current the documentation necessary to classify chemical mixtures.
  • Use a range of software solutions and tools to assemble and provide data on chemical substances and mixtures in various repackaged forms.
  • Maintain a high level of organization to ensure timely project completion on multiple or stacking priorities and ensure information is provided on (or before) target completion dates.
  • Prepare correspondences for internal and external customers in support of regulatory requirements/internal policies.
  • Attend continuing education courses, professional development seminars and other awareness functions as assigned.
  • Perform data entry. Set up and maintain records, systems and procedures as needed.
  • Conduct structured visits to company facilities as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of Associates degree (A. Sc.) in Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, or Chemical Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years related job experience and/or training pertinent to job-related skills listed above.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job.
  • Knowledge of chemistry and related disciplines is required.
  • Working knowledge of web applications, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Data-driven and detail-oriented and productive work ethic in support of company and RA department quality policies and principles.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work on demanding business and regulatory deadlines, manage and escalate ambiguous situations to the Director of Regulatory Affairs, and maintain detailed records.
  • Ability to leverage the flexibility of working in a full remote capacity while also performing at a high level to satisfy job requirements.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, or Chemical Engineering.
  • 3+ years related job experience and/or training pertinent to job-related skills listed above.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP or ISO quality systems preferred.
  • Candidates with prior knowledge of TSCA, REACH, Globally Harmonized System (GHS) classification, or dangerous goods transportation regulations (IATA/ICAO, DOT, IMDG) are preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
