Overview:

The Communications Specialist will report to the Communications Manager. The Communications Specialist will support the development and execution of communications strategies, ensuring cohesive messaging and timely execution of deliverables, and drafting internal and external communications content. Contribute to core communication efforts through good research, well-written copy, and timely preparation and distribution of content to target audiences through a diverse set of communications platforms. These include writing, among other things, stories for e-newsletters, press releases for media, and content for company intranet. They will have the ability to work independently but within the context of being a member of an integrated and collaborative communications team.

Responsibilities:

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide collaborative team support in advancing strategic communications goals in alignment with MCU’s core mission, vision and values
  • Support overall corporate communications team’s goals and objectives
  • Create and write business communications on a variety of topics to support communications plans, spanning company announcements, meeting presentations, multimedia, video scripts, key messages and executive talking points/ speeches, and additional press/media content.
  • Draft, prepare and publish content for the corporate intranet, digital newsletters, and internal emails.
  • Support with PowerPoint deck development for company-wide town halls, divisional all-hands meetings, more.
  • Ensure consistent messaging throughout various internal communications and materials.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for best practices in grammar, messaging, tone and style, as well as content creation, communications strategies and distribution.
  • Oversee research, development, planning and on-site execution (planning through run of show) of team member celebrations and opening events).

Requirements:

  • Performs work under direct supervision.
  • Handles basic issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of related experience, including internal communications and public relations; exposure to regulated industries, ideally in banking or financial services.
  • Excellent written, visual and verbal communications skills, including sharing ideas and information across diverse audiences and creating compelling written and visual content.
  • Highly flexible and able to quickly adapt to changing priorities.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to proactively work independently as well as within a team
  • Strong project management skills and able to work in fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Attention to detail and task oriented, ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines
