Essential Functions:

Duties & Responsibilities

Brand Strategy Development and Execution

  • Develops and implements an integrated branding, marketing, and communications strategy to enhance the organization's visibility, strengthen its reputation, and increase engagement among its key audiences.
  • Works closely with leadership to align marketing and communications strategies and templates with the organization's mission, strategic goals, and funding objectives.

Marketing Campaigns and Public Relations

  • Designs and executes innovative marketing campaigns that effectively communicates the organization's mission, impacts, and needs to diverse audiences, including donors, volunteers, and the communities served.
  • Coordinates and advises on public relations efforts, opportunities, and events, including media outreach, press releases, and public events, to increase the organization's visibility and support fundraising efforts.

Enterprise Communications

  • Oversees internal communications to ensure staff are informed of organizational news, updates, and initiatives.
  • Manages the development and maintenance of the intranet as a vital tool for internal communications and resource sharing.

Digital Presence and Social Media Management

  • Leads the development management, and optimization of the organization's online presence, including the website, social media platforms, and email marketing campaigns.
  • Develops content strategies and produce high-quality content that engages target audiences and promotes the organization's activities and impact.
  • Monitors social media trends and analytics, adapting strategies as necessary to improve engagement and reach.

Team Leadership and Management

  • Leads and mentors a team of marketing and communications professionals, setting clear goals and expectations, and fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Manages external vendors and consultants, including designers, printers, and media outlets, to ensure high-quality and cost-effective services.


Budget Management

  • Develops and manages the marketing and communications budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support strategic priorities.

Evaluation and Reporting

  • Implements tools and processes and develops KPIs and metrics to measure the effectiveness of marketing and communications strategies, adjusting tactics as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Regularly reports on progress and insights to senior leadership and relevant stakeholders.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • 1 FTE Social Media Intern or FTE; 1 FTE Communications Manager

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in brand marketing, and communications, with at least 5 years in a managerial level (or higher) leadership role, preferably within a non-profit organization.
  • Proven track record of leading the development and implementation of successful cross functional marketing and communication strategies and KPIs.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (K/S/A):

  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms, including social media, email marketing software, and content management systems.
  • Proficient managing press relations
  • Proficient with developing and managing SharePoint intranet platforms.
  • Proficient with matrixed website management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce compelling and clear content for a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrate a strategic and creative approach.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Demonstrate of applying formal project management best practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.

Working Conditions:

This position may require occasional evening and weekend work to support organization events and deadlines.

Some travel may be required for conferences, workshops, and meetings with partners or donors.

Work Arrangement:

This role is eligible for a “hybrid” work arrangement. If hybrid, it is expected this person would be able to meet for “in person” meetings when needed or at the request of others. In-person meetings may be required on a regular basis (weekly, monthly, etc.). There may also be the availability to work from home when appropriate.

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Each program site operates on a 24/7 basis, 365 days per year. To meet both the needs of our participants and contractual obligations, employees are required to be flexible in regards to scheduling and work location.
  • Program sites are located throughout the Chicago area, including the North and South sides of Chicago, as well as the suburbs. Employees may be required to report to any one of our locations on a temporary or permanent basis.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk.
  • The employee must be able to stoop, kneel and/or crawl.
  • The employee is regularly required to use hands to key, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • The employee must have unrestricted ability to provide physical restraint.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
