Discovery Senior Living is looking for an Assistant Vice President of Instructional Design and Learning to join our home office team.

This is a remote role. Ideal candidate locations include Chicago, Denver, Dallas or Houston.

The Assistant Vice President of Instructional Design and Learning is a working learning executive who will oversee the design and development of a portfolio of face-to-face, online, and blended curricula for the Discovery Family of Companie's growing business. This role will scope, develop, and partner with functional leaders and execute on a suite of development programs offered across a variety of disciplines and audiences across the organization while providing concrete program metrics and delivering exceptional results and differentiating the company as an employer-of-choice.

The Assistant Vice President of Instructional Design and Learning will collaborate closely with internal business partners in support of curriculum development, curricular updates, instructor/facilitator development and the design of face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses. This role will identify the pedagogical best practices and supporting delivery channels and technologies needed to effectively execute. This role will also oversee the work of internal and contracted instructional designers to ensure the production of courses that are both aligned with established learning objectives and engagement of learners. May provide oversight to other learning functions as needed.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute on reimagined best in-class learning and development programs that support the Discovery Family of Company's growing organization including a new Leadership Essentials Program.
  • Collaborate across the enterprise with functional leaders to oversee scoping, development, sourcing, and evaluation of new and recurring training and development programs and when appropriate, supporting technology to support and drive individual, team, and organizational results. Oversee multiple projects for different internal clients, ensuring that each is properly resourced and managed to scope, budget and time.
  • Evaluates, establishes, and manages external content provider relationships.
  • Leads the instructional design strategy and practices.
  • Partner with the Enterprise Solutions team, Director, Learning Experience and VP Technology to ensure that curriculum needs align with client technical requirements.
  • Ensures the consistent performance of all content creators against time, quality, and budget standards, including instructional designers, subject-matter experts, and cross-functional contributors (content, video, instructors, etc).
  • Establishes and track KPIs and track / report progress against the same for ongoing operational improvements.
  • Stays up to date on best practices in rapid custom curriculum contextualization and customization, including the use of authoring tools, content management tools, and generative-AI tools.
  • Provides oversight, supervision, and coaching to other learning team members as assigned to support the organization's growing learning organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and recommending disciplining when necessary if set goals are not met.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree required and Advanced degree strongly preferred Organizational Development.
  • 10 + years of experience of successfully acting as working learning executive leading instructional design for growing, large, multi-site, employer with complex business operations. Senior living, healthcare, hospitality, service industries, retail, or experience with leading an instructional design team with a high percentage of hourly team members working 24x7 a plus.
  • 10 + years of experience developing curricula leveraging virtual and online technology training programs. other related disciplines.
  • 10 + years of experience with instructional design tools such as LMSs, Articulate and Camtasia and delivery technology.
  • Experience working with rapid development models, including standardized, repeatable practices delivered within tight and competing timelines.
  • Ability to travel frequently
