The Digital Collections Specialist primarily supports the digital activities of Archives &Distinctive Collections (ADC). Tasks include digitization, description, preservation anduploading content to various digital platforms. They also will assist with the creation of in-person and digital exhibits, contribute to the Holy Cross Libraries' social mediaaccounts as well as staff the Reading Room's desk and respond to reference requests.

Major Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the Digital Initiatives Archivist, make the collections of ADC as well as the intellectual, creative, and scholarly work of the College of the Holy Cross community accessible via ADC's digital platforms.
  • Digitize material from ADC using Epson and Zeutschel scanners.
  • Reformat at-risk formats such as VHS tapes into digital files using in-houseequipment.
  • Prepare digital files (both digitized and born-digital) for upload to ADC's digitalplatforms by performing quality checks, creating derivative files, renaming and ocring files, creating metadata and preparing spreadsheets or xml files.
  • Collaborate with ADC staff in facilitating the transfer of born-digital collegerecords, donations and other materials.
  • Update finding aids, inventories, collection lists, etc. to include digitized or born-digital material.
  • Support the development and planning of digital projects by creating inventory lists, assessing materials, creating condition reports, developing workflows, etc.
  • Prepare materials sent off-site to vendors for digitization.
  • Participate in digital collections maintenance projects.
  • Assist the Digital Initiatives Archivist in maintaining workflows, procedures and statistics for digitization activities and digital collections.
  • Assist the Digital Initiatives Archivist in training and supervising student workers assigned to digital collections.
  • Collaborate with departmental staff and student workers in developing, researching, preparing and mounting exhibits, both in-person and digital.
  • Assist with the department's contributions to the libraries' social media accounts.
  • Staff the Reading Room's desk during regularly scheduled shifts. During shift, greet researchers upon arrival, pull collections for use, ensure the ReadingRoom's policies, and procedures are followed. Instruct patrons on properhandling and usage of materials, and monitor the use of materials. Provide back-up coverage as needed.
  • Assist ADC staff in responding to reference requests received via email and thetelephone.
  • Collaborate with ADC staff to digitize materials for reference and reproductionrequests.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies; acquire new skills and solveproblems.
  • Experience working both independently and collaboratively in a collegial, team-based environment and maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; able to work across andprioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to meet deadlines; commitment to the timing and to the workflows ofrecurring and/or monotonous archival processes.
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer proficiency
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of College records.
  • Ability to follow special handling requirements of rare, unique and fragilematerials set by professional standards.
  • Ability to adapt to change with flexibility, creativity, and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service ethic.
  • Ability to work in an environment in which exposure to materials containing dustand mold is possible.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the digitization of archival and/or audiovisual materials.
  • Experience working with archival, special collections or museum materials.
  • Experience with metadata for library or archival materials.
  • Experience with platforms for the discovery, management, and preservation ofarchives, library and digital collections.
  • Experience with managing student workers and/or staff.
  • Fluency with the Google Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro and Photoshop/Elements
