Position Description

Sprezzatura seeks a Proposal Writer to join our expanding team. Working in concert with BD and Operations resources, the ideal candidate is an excellent writer and communicator and is able to convey technical concepts in simple and clear narratives. The candidate will lead proposal writing efforts and work with our proposal management team to direct the development of compelling and compliant on-time delivery of proposals responses to government RFPs, RFQs, Task Orders, RFIs, and Sources Sought Notices.

Roles/Responsibilities:

  • Lead proposal writing efforts and direct the development of compelling and compliant on-time delivery of proposals responses to RFPs, RFQs, Task Orders, RFIs, and Sources Sought Notices.
  • Develop proposal outlines, compliance matrices, proposal schedules, and provide direction to leadership and cross-functional teams assigned to work proposal efforts
    Interview and work collaboratively with solutions architects, project managers, subject matter experts, and executive leadership to capture key concepts and ideas into a narrative while maintaining consistency in messaging and strategy through the use of proper tone/voice.
  • Ensure win strategy, technical solution, win themes, discriminators, compliance, and clear understanding of the requirement are well-articulated and consistent throughout final proposal documents
  • Review and edit proposal responses for consistency, compliance, win theme incorporation, solution accuracy, and other elements during regular and core team review cycles in order to create the final proposal submission
  • Work with Proposal Manager to ensure configuration control of all proposal files, forms, graphics, drafts, reviewer comments, and approvals
  • Maintains quality results by using templates; following proposal-writing standards including readability, consistency, and tone; maintaining proposal support databases.
  • Deliver completed written proposal responses to the Proposal Manager against agreed RFP deadlines, escalating issues as required
  • Improves proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, coordination, and implementing changes.
  • Add all new proposal content to the proposal support database for potential re-use
  • Communicate and influence at a senior level with strong written English language skills


Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in information technology, journalism, communications, English or a related field
  • 5+ years related work experience in the Federal Government contracting industry in a Proposal Writer role
  • Understanding of and experience with Federal Government procurement practices including basic understanding of FAR requirements and standard Federal Government solicitation organization.
  • Experience with multiple Department level agencies.
  • Strong writing skills, and proven experience reviewing, writing, and editing capture and proposal content.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet all deadlines.
  • Entire MS office, experience with Office 365 and SharePoint a bonus, but not required

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to solicit inputs from technical subject matter experts (SMEs), using interview and research techniques, and draft compelling proposal content.
  • Ability to edit draft content to meet proposal requirements and emphasize win themes/discriminators.
  • Ability to speak clearly and confidently, in-person and on conference calls, and give and receive candid feedback in an open, results-oriented environment.
  • Ability to develop and/or assist in developing compelling themes, discriminators, and messaging.
  • Demonstrate composure under pressure - ability to work well under pressure and make decisions quickly yet seek guidance when necessary.
  • Demonstrate strong editing, proofing, grammar, and style skills.
  • Ability to maintain courteous and professional working relationships with employees at all levels.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of the federal government contracting industry and ability to spot market changes in advance.
  • Proficiency in personal computer skills with expertise in word processing, desktop publishing, presentation, and document management applications in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Share Point) as well as Adobe Acrobat.
  • Location: Rosslyn, VA; part-time telework available
  • Veteran Preference: Yes but not required
  • Citizenship/Security: Must be a US Citizen or have a Green Card. Must be able to hold a federal security clearance.
