Function: Responsible for organizational support through prospecting and raising by researching, developing and managing relationships with funders including corporations, foundations and individuals.
Nature and Background of Position:
The Development Associate (DA) works directly with the Chief Development Officer and the Development Team to grow Students 2 Science’s fundraising program. The DA will assist in successfully executing the organization’s fundraising strategic plan to directly support the operation of the programs. The DA will foster and develop relationships with key corporate executives, government/political leaders, and high net worth individuals. It is expected that the DA remain current on information regarding Students 2 Science including institutional history, current activities, and planned programs to fully understand funding priorities.
Fundraising
Principal Activities and Responsibilities:
- Create annual giving programs to support S2S’ revenue streams and provide support for direct mail, online giving, and fundraising campaigns through social media
- Research prospective donors to gain insight into needs, beliefs and donation habits to understand how to position our organization to them
- Build upon existing donor relationships and form new donor relationships on a regular basis
- Assist in brainstorming and creating new methods to raise funds for our organization
- Leverage technology and social media where possible to improve fundraising activities
- Assist in creating marketing materials, such as presentations, brochures and flyers, to be used for all fundraising activities
- Analyze the performance of fundraising activities for effectiveness
- Use Salesforce to maintain complete and orderly records of leads, contacts, opportunities, and regular donor communications
- Collaborate with other organizations and groups within the community to build partnerships and enhance fundraising activities
- Support the CDO in any development and fundraising activities and donor follow up
- Organize and successfully execute fundraising and promotional events
- Support all facets of the Development Team and S2S within the community and with partnering organization
Job Skills & Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- At least three years of fundraising experience
- Proven success in fundraising in the New Jersey region
- Experience researching, writing and managing state and federal grants
- Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Refined public speaking and presentation skills
- Ability to work well in a diverse group
- Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail
- Quick thinker and ability to make decisions under pressure
- Proven track record of achieving fund development goals; in-depth knowledge of fundraising management systems, gift cultivation and stewardship, and grant proposal processes
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines while delivering a high-quality product or service
- Proficient at Microsoft Office products, and experience with Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or similar CRM/Development databases
Preferred:
- Experience fundraising within the STEM industry
- Minimum five years of fundraising experience
Physical Requirements: This position requires frequent travel and in-person meetings. A significant amount of time is spent sitting and standing. Must be able to read, write and understand English. Good auditory and visual skills are required. This in-office position will be based out of the East Hanover Technology Center.
