Job Description

Overview:

The RELEVANT is assembling a team of human-centered strategists, designers, writers, and technologists to revolutionize the customer experience for the millions of individuals commuting through the city daily. We are seeking a talented content manager and strategist to join our team and oversee content for the RELEVANT.

In this role, your primary responsibility will be migrating content from web.relevant.info to new.relevant.info. This entails collaborating with stakeholders across multiple agencies to ensure content accuracy while enhancing its customer-centricity through rewriting and reorganization. Additionally, you will contribute to crafting web content for significant projects such as the L project, the Bus Network Redesign, and Fast Forward. If you have a passion for crafting explainers or have encountered government websites and wondered about their usability, this position is ideal for you.

We expect you to think holistically, shaping entire sections and advising on Information Architecture (IA). Moreover, you will be hands-on, rewriting and editing content, even managing basic tasks like file organization and uploads. Initially, you will work independently, supported by technical colleagues and marketing teams across the RELEVANT. Eventually, you will evolve into a CMS evangelist and trainer, transitioning into more of an editor role, guiding teams across the RELEVANT in publishing their content. While a background in marketing or journalism is advantageous, we seek someone with strong writing skills and a keen eye for web layout.

Your audience will exceed 8 million individuals daily, positioning you at the forefront of modernizing the RELEVANT.

Responsibilities:

- Assist in creating an Information Architecture for new.relevant.info.

- Migrate content from web.relevant.info to new.relevant.info, enhancing its customer-centricity through rewriting and reorganization.

- Coordinate with multiple stakeholders across multiple agencies to ensure content findability.

- Maintain relevan.info's up-to-date status, including basic updates.

- Collaborate with the product team to develop new CMS tools and features, acting as the primary advocate for content editors.

- Recruit editors and writers from various RELEVANT agencies, training them on the CMS and guiding them in updating their website sections.

- Manage all site updates, approving changes from different agencies.

- Develop and update a set of text and language standards for the RELEVANT, potentially incorporating voice and tone considerations.

Qualifications:

- Exceptional writing skills, with a passion for simplifying complex ideas and communicating effectively with diverse audiences.

- Experience in marketing, journalism, communications, or similar fields requiring public-facing writing and meeting deadlines.

- Proficiency with a CMS (Drupal, WordPress, or similar).

- Some experience with content design or strong opinions about webpage layout.

- Ability to collaborate with senior management across various organizational levels while advocating for a customer-centric voice and tone.

- Familiarity with product or project management software such as JIRA, Trello, Airtable, or Asana.

- Some exposure to information architecture is beneficial, but at minimum, a strong opinion about website layouts and structured, discoverable content.

- Experience in user-centric principles.
