Job Description

We are urgently seeking a Director Communications to support our communications strategies and marketing campaign implementations for a wide range of events. This role calls for exceptional interpersonal communication skills, the ability to delegate tasks effectively, and a passion for learning new skills. Responsible for managing internal and external communications including general visibility, public relations, social media and media outreach strategies as directed by the Director. This position is also responsible for writing, editing and publishing content for internal channels.

 

Director Communication is responsible for many organizational and creative tasks to standardize and improve the communication and marketing efforts of the club. They have the following responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other departments to identify the events to promote
  • Create style guides and brand voice outlines for all marketing staff to follow and other vital departments
  • Draft press releases and speeches for club news and events
  • Write letters, interdepartmental memos and other business correspondence
  • Communicate with media outlets and journalists and create press kits
  • Develop materials to educate staff on club communication practices
  • Coach and assist team members on improving communication skill
  • Perform communications research and monitor the progress of various communications strategies
  • Collaborate with team members to maximize member engagement
  • Primary job duties involve a variety of communications skills (verbal, written, multimedia, etc.) to support club event programs and attendance objectives
  • Supervises the development of club program materials and electronic media to include websites, press-releases, newsletters, presentations, all manners of collateral, and other tools to ensure appropriate messaging and brand strategy are effectively executed.
  • Act as the primary club point of contact for media
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Develop and implement innovative communications strategies and plans
  • Establish a regular cadence of relevant, easily accessible content through various communication channels
  • Measure, report and adjust communications activities based on outcomes
  • Develop communication plans in collaboration with Executives throughout the organization; works closely with marketing to ensure the alignment of internal and external messaging
  • Monitor communication plan milestone completion; identifies process and operational roadblocks; owns and consults solution development with stakeholders and escalates critical decisions to reach alignment
  • Owns major end-to-end processes and events on a project, takes initiative, and uses problem solving skills to think beyond the task to the outcome that needs to be achieved
  • Independently gathers information from a variety of sources to analyze, interpret, and summarize data gathered and to deliver insights
  • Creates comprehensive and effective communications strategies to mitigate risk and ensure project success
  • Establishes partnerships and consults with key business stakeholders and team members
  • Fosters teamwork, collaboration, and learning within the team contributing to a positive work environment
  • Provides feedback to project team members as necessary for high performance
  • Knowledgeable in strategic communications planning methodology, leading edge practices, trends and information; aware of employee engagement strategies and innovative tactics being applied in the marketplace
  • Exceptional writing, communication, storytelling, and project management skills
  • Strong PowerPoint and visual design skills
  • Experience in developing communications plans and strategies to deliver on business objectives
  • Experience communicating to frontline teams as well as leadership
  • Ability to manage deadlines and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in managing events like leadership conferences, town halls and webcasts
  • Experience working with teams, graphic designers and other creative support
  • Outstanding ability to manage relationships and balance project, organization, and team needs to ensure mutually beneficial outcomes
  • Excellent consultative skills and ability to communicate effectively across varied stakeholder audiences, including senior organizational leaders
  • Comfortable working in a high volume, fast-paced, rapidly changing, results-oriented work environment
  • Must be able to develop and clearly and concisely present a professional product to multiple levels of management
  • Must be well organized, able to prioritize work, manage time effectively, and follow through on commitments
  • Sensitivity in handling confidential information
  • Ability to work individually or within a team environment
  • Write copy, edit submissions and publish content for media properties, ensuring all content is consistent with the guidelines and standards.
  • Work alongside social media team to be able to post social media content, monitor and track social media engagement and other IIT social media channels including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.
  • Assist with creating and managing media relations campaigns, including writing press releases, responding to media inquiries, monitoring and tracking media mentions
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills along with interviewing skills are essential.
  • A good understanding of general practices, methods and procedures related to public relations, media relations and marketing.
  • The right person for the job will be organized and detail-oriented.
  • Passionate about good editing, writing, and grammar.
  • Knowledgeable about social media best practices.
  • Comfortable dealing with the media (making media pitches, and answering questions from the media when inquires come into the media team) and have a solid understanding of online, television, and radio media outlets.
  • Able to think critically and creatively.
  • Able to work well under deadline pressure and multi-task.
  • Willing to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Willing to take direction and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Responsible for recommending, executing, and maintaining all communication strategies, plans, and message management processes.
  • Contributes to the development of integrated communication plans and execution against those plans.
  • Responsible for recommending adjustments to communication strategies, plans, and key messages and executing accordingly.
  • Responsible for managing deliverables and ensuring quality assurance standards are met across all functional requirements.
  • Responsible for directly supervising employees.
