THE ORGANIZATION

Ashley Treatment Center was founded in 1983 by two visionaries who knew the treatment of drug or alcohol addiction could be designed and effectively delivered in a holistic manner that compassionately considers the whole person and not just the disease. POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall accountability and responsibility for the development and management of human, fiscal and material resources required for optimal functioning of Nursing department and nursing services at the inpatient, residential and Outpatient treatment setting. Responsible for maintaining quality of care throughout the entire facility and management of staff training and patient education. Able to provide strong leadership to assure the nursing staff in delivering excellent care to patients and offering quality support to the medical staff. Implements quality improvement programs designed to help deliver the highest possible levels of care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversight of care, treatment and services of the Nursing department of Ashley. ensuring all nursing personnel are performing productively and efficiently at all times. Act as the point of contact between the staff and the Physicians or other leaders in the organization. Directors of Nursing build training programs and operation policies that help the nursing staff meet goals that improve the overall performance of the organization. Responsible for recruitment, training and directing responsibilities and task of the Assistant Director of Nursing and nursing staff. Investigate complaints from family/patient that can be litigious in nature.

Leadership – Develops departmental goals and objectives consistent with philosophy of the Organization. Coordinates and directs all services related to patient care. Oversees the recruitment and training of nurses and support staff in residential and outpatient settings. Active participation and oversight of various committee meetings as needed/ assigned.

Documentation- Directs competency and maintenance of patients’ clinical records; documents patient records via computer terminal.

Audit Readiness/Compliance- Assures on-going compliance with applicable laws, regulations, TJC standards, OSHA, NOSHA, CDC, and State of MD. Directs, reviews and evaluates departmental Quality Improvement projects in accordance with AAT QI plan. Assure compliance with nursing contracts and related services. Develop new policies and update existing policies to help improve the level of care provided by the organization.

Education- Oversee staff and patient community education. Creating opportunities for continued development of managers and supervisors. Holds departmental in-services and directs performance improvement initiatives. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks and participating in professional societies.

Use of Emergency and Clinical Equipment- Assures competency of staff in the use of emergency and clinical equipment as evidenced by the proper use of Glucometer, Breathalyzer, Nebulizer, emergency response equipment and drugs. Assures medical supplies for the facility are well stocked and the equipment used is updated and efficient

Managing Emergency Conditions- Assures competency of staff in the management of the following emergency conditions: Chest Pain, SOB/Dyspnea, Seizures, Hypo/Hyperglycemia.

Patient Assessment- Assures the performance of accurate assessments upon the patient’s admission, during withdrawal management and during rehabilitation; working knowledge of detox protocols. Develops appropriate treatment plans. Knows how and when to report cases of abuse (sexual, physical, elder) and child neglect.

Applying Development and Age-Related Knowledge in the Care of Patients- Demonstrates competency in applying development and age-related knowledge in the care of patients in the following age groups: Adolescent (18-19 years), Young Adults (20-39 years), Middle Adult (40-64 years), Older Adults (65-74 years) and Geriatric (75- and older).

Supervisory Responsibilities- Oversee management of staff of Registered and Licensed Practical Nurses as well as CNA’s and support personnel. Duties include evaluating and directing all nursing employees, establishing goals for the nursing department and creating and enforcing compliant healthcare policies. Overseeing department budgets, and reporting to higher management in the healthcare facilities. Assures the performance of managers and all direct reports.

Performs all necessary management responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, conducting employee performance reviews and appraisals, disciplining and discharging of staff as needed

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Master of Science in Nursing or Healthcare Administration preferred or;
  • BS degree in Nursing or Health related Services required.
  • Active RN License in the State of MD or Compact State
  • Active CPR Certification required
  • Minimum of one-year experience in Addiction/Psych Nursing; certification in addictions preferred;
  • Leadership experience of 5 years
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Up-to-date knowledge of nursing practices, methods and tools
  • Ability to lead and instruct others
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Be sensitive to the needs of chemically dependent patients
  • Able to deal with problems among staff and among the patient community
