Job Description

The National Association of Counties (NACo), representing America’s 3,069 county governments with 40,000 elected officials, 3.6 million county employees and more than $660 billion in annual community-based investments, seeks a Digital Communications Associate. Reporting to the digital communications director, this position supports NACo’s communications efforts to advance the association’s objectives primarily in membership engagement, policy advocacy and thought leadership through digital content creation and promotion.

Position Responsibilities and Activities:

  • Assist with day-to-day implementation and creation of digital media content including GIS/mapping/storymaps and other interactive features.
  • Contribute to communications team efforts to enhance NACo.org, social media channels, video and podcast production and other multimedia content.
  • Writing/editing for the web and other digital channels
  • Lead the development and deployment of a cross-platform social media strategy aimed at reaching counties and intergovernmental partners and educating the public about county responsibilities
  • Contribute to communications team efforts to enhance other digital communications channels, including NACo.org, email communication, video and podcast production, and other multimedia content
  • Collaborate with all members of communications team and all departments across NACo to produce cutting-edge digital media materials
  • Support photography efforts with some photography responsibilities and management of outside photography vendors
  • Manage NACo’s Achievement Awards, a longstanding program that celebrates the most innovative programs in county government, including developing a marketing plan, managing the application, and judging processes, planning recognition of winners at NACo’s Annual Conference, and managing a cross-departmental NACo team that supports day-to-day customer service for the program during its application window
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal, written, organizational and professional relationship-building skills
  • Creativity and flexibility
  • 3-5 years of experience in digital communications, including managing professional social media channels
  • Creativity and flexibility
  • Close attention to detail and excellent judgment
  • Willingness to try new tasks and learn new skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and provide support to others within the communications team and across NACo
  • Some content management experience (e.g. Drupal, Wordpress) and HTML
  • Basic photography skills preferred
  • Basic Adobe Creative Cloud skills (Photoshop, InDesign)

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid work schedule is available, with minimum requirement of 2 days in the office to collaborate
  • Some travel is required
