Job Title: Assistant Director of Residence Life

Reports To: Director of Housing Operations

Location: Campus View at Highline College, Des Moines, WA

Compensation: $50,000.00 - $53,000.00 per year, furnished apartment, and comprehensive benefits package

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Capstone On-Campus Management (COCM), with headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama, is a group of student housing professionals focused exclusively on the management of housing communities owned by non-profits and/or highly affiliated with a university.

Summary

The Assistant Director of Residence Life is responsible for providing leadership and vision for Campus View through student engagement, staff leadership and development, creative programming, marketing of the housing experience, administrative effectiveness, and community support including emergency response. This position directly supervises one full-time Residence Life Coordinator and indirectly supervises the community’s Resident Assistant staff.

The Assistant Director must be able to work independently, take initiative, be committed to student learning, communicate effectively, and collaborate with stakeholders both inside and outside of Highline College. Projecting a customer focused and professional image through interactions with all internal and external customers is essential.

This is a full-time, 12-month, live-in position. This position serves in the after-hours on-call rotation for the housing community. Hours of work may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional travel.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate Residence Life Coordinator and Resident Assistants;
  • Oversight of all Residence Life functions including student outreach, community development, individual and public health and safety initiatives, and New Resident Orientation;
  • Collaborate with campus partners to provide resident training and resources on Title IX and bias based incidents;
  • Develop and maintain supportive relationships with residents to build trust and confidence;
  • Provide advisement, support, and referrals to resident students regarding academic, housing, and personal concerns;
  • Coordinate quarterly health and safety inspections;
  • Assist Director of Housing Operations with follow-up on maintenance concerns identified/reported in residential units;
  • Promote and uphold community and College policies and procedures including adjudication of Campus View-specific policy violations with the support of the Highline College Student Conduct Manager;
  • Assist students with roommate issues including conflict resolution and mediation;
  • Respond to resident and community emergencies including providing direct support and referrals, as needed;
  • Develop a working knowledge of office operations and assist in the day-to-day management of Campus View activities;
  • Assist with management of community’s operating budget;
  • Utilizes database systems to ensure accurate record keeping of student information;
  • Support, and work collaboratively with other team members in the implementation of move-in, move-out, and turn;
  • Support the mission and efforts connected to Highline College goals/objectives;
  • Develop marketing strategies for prospective residents and current residents;
  • Create marketing assets and content including digital and print materials for print and electronic publication;
  • Supervises and serves in the on-call emergency duty rotation;
  • Attends various marketing events, including, but not limited to, open houses, tabling, and informational events promoting Highline College and Campus View;
  • Participates in Student Life Unit meetings, CORE meetings, and CORE summer training and assures ResLife staff are integrated with other student leaders on campus and the CORE team;
  • Participates in COCM and/or Highline College committees as assigned/appointed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree;
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a student housing environment, including Resident Assistant experience.
  • A basic understanding of administrative management and student development.
  • Experience in crisis management.
  • Knowledge of FERPA, Title IX, Fair Housing standards and common student housing best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education/Student Affairs/Counseling or related field.
  • Two to five years of experience in higher education administration and/or student housing.
  • A comprehensive understanding of student development and willingness to learn and co-manage administrative operations.
  • Experience working with undergraduate student populations.
