JOB SUMMARY

The Intensive Outpatient Mental Health Services program provides intensive and all-inclusive case management and outpatient/rehabilitation services to individuals with serious and persistent mental illness with severe functional impairments who have avoided or not responded well to traditional mental health/psychiatric care and rehabilitation services. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Recovery Specialist provides education, support, and specific treatments aimed at assisting in clients' recovery from alcohol and substance abuse disorders. Incumbent completes assessments, provides group and individual counseling, and offers outreach to clients as appropriate. At the level of AOD certification, the specialist provides substance abuse education and relapse prevention strategies, and implement social model interventions in the milieu. Recovery Specialists utilize and incorporate best practices in psychiatric, substance abuse, prevocational, nursing, and social skills and illness management techniques with a strengths-based approach-consistent with principles of CCISC and Assertive Community Treatment

(ACT). Incumbent also provides case management services and serve as liaison with Substance Abuse Service Providers, where applicable.

  • The Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) model and the Full-Service Partnership (FSP) model associated with the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA). Each of these models provides services available 24 hours per day,365 days per year, doing "Whatever It Takes".
  • Provides engagement and outreach to current or potential clients in the community.
  • Performs assessments, and Alcohol and drug screening of clients and presents at team meetings.
  • Knowledge of assessments, diagnosis and treatment techniques, as well as behavioral management and crisis intervention skills.
  • Knowledge of CCISC principles and Assertive Community Treatment model of service delivery and the ability to implement such services.
  • Provides expertise in the areas of substance abuse and co-occurring disorders to interdisciplinary team.
  • Interacts therapeutically with clients in the milieu and in the community and demonstrates boundaries consistent with professional standards. Must be able to engage culturally diverse populations
  • Completes all charting and documentation as contractually required and in timely manner as dictated by program requirements.
  • Serves as part of the on-call team, fulfilling all work requirements of this program component.
  • Conducts Alcohol and drug rehabilitative services, including individual, group and family services, in the clients' home, community and on-site. Field work is required.
  • Assists in determining client eligibility for MediCal enrollment assistance
  • Completes all assigned duties within the time frame and according to the standards as established by the Program Manager.
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional growth by attending in-service trainings and staff development programs, and seeking out supervision when needed.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all MHS and program rules, policies and procedures including HIPAA standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • For certification level position: Bachelor’s degree or certification in a substance abuse treatment field, and two years’ experience providing substance abuse and integrated services to individuals with co-occurring disorders.
  • Training and/or experience in substance abuse programs and treatment, relapse prevention, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and 12-Step programs.
  • Work experience 2 years.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Tagalog or Arabic is preferred if the position serves that population.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite and EHR software.
  • Ability to problem solve and react appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with a team.
