Job Description

The Environmental Working Group (EWG), a leading environmental health research and advocacy organization, seeks a senior UX/UI designer for its Washington, D.C., office.

Since 1993, EWG has shined a spotlight on outdated legislation, harmful agricultural practices and industry loopholes that pose a risk to our health and the health of the environment.

Whether it’s on Capitol Hill or in communities across America, we make our voices heard, changing the debate over environmental health and putting the most important people – you and your family – at the center of the conversation.

As a senior UX/UI designer, you will play a key role in our innovative team shaping the user experience of our digital products, ensuring they align with our mission to protect health and the environment.

We are looking for a unicorn, capable of jumping in along every phase of the UX design process from user research to front-end development, having the greatest impact for our cross-disciplined team of designers and developers.

What you will do:

  • Lead the design and development of intuitive and visually appealing digital products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define design requirements and user stories.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for various digital platforms.
  • Conduct user research and usability testing to gather feedback and iterate on designs.
  • Ensure consistent brand representation and user experience across all digital products.
  • Collaborate with developers to implement and refine designs.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and design best practices.
  • Translate design mockups into pixel-perfect HTML, CSS, JavaScript templates.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in product design, with a focus on digital platforms.
  • Proven track record of successfully bringing digital products from concept to launch.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing UX/UI projects and design thinking.
  • Experience with user research and usability testing methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a keen eye for aesthetics and user experience.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects with varying complexities.
  • Experience with native app design for both iOS and Android
  • Basic knowledge of front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.)

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in a nonprofit or advocacy organization is a plus.
  • Experience with Drupal is also a plus.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails, React, MVC, etc. is ideal.

Location: Washington, D.C., office.

Benefits: Salary is commensurate with experience. EWG offers fully paid, excellent health care, paid parental leave and a tax-deferred 403(b) plan, including matched contributions. It’s a casual, growing office with more than 70 engaging co-workers.
