TITLE Coordinator of Communications and Legislative Affairs
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Legislative Responsibilities
· Responsible for the organization and support of WVHA Legislative Committee meetings including development and review of materials, minutes, agendas, and scheduling.
· Work with WVHA staff to organize Hospital Advocacy Week and other advocacy efforts throughout the year, including organizing hospital visits.
· Assist in developing policy materials, bill tracking, attending committee hearings, and other duties related to the West Virginia Legislature.
· Support other policy activities such as reviewing agency rules and related policies that impact health care and hospitals as directed by the Legislative Team.
· Attend legislative hearings, floor sessions, allied organizations meetings, and other policy events as needed in support of advancing WVHA legislative agenda.
Communications Responsibilities
· Assist in the development, management, and distribution of various communications and advocacy materials. This includes but is not limited to paid, earned and social media.
· Distribute any internally developed WVHA materials to the media such as press releases, guest commentaries and opinion/editorials.
· Develop and distribute WVHA Communications including but not limited to (Daily WVHA NewsScan, Weekly E-Newsletter Friday Report, and WVHA Senior staff generated Executive Bulletins).
· Update the WVHA and affiliated Websites.
· Build and maintain relationships with media, journalists, and other key contacts.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s degree in political science, communication, marketing, public relations, or similar field preferred
· 1-3 years’ experience in a communications or policy related position or field
· Understanding of digital metrics; able to interpret results and take action to increase effectiveness of digital campaigns.
COMPENSATION
Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience level, and a competitive fringe benefits package is provided.
