Full-time employee.
Remote with the flexibility to travel to our headquarters in Ohio for onboarding and 2-3 times a year.
Must live in the following states: OH,MI, IN, IL, TN, TX, NV, RI, MT, FL, CO, MA.

Position Summary:

The AWS FinOps Engineer will be responsible for optimizing AWS cost spending, efficiency, and performance of Midwest Tape AWS infrastructure and services. This includes identifying opportunities for optimizing AWS resource allocation, implementing cost-saving measures, and continuously monitoring and improving our AWS resources. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AWS computing, AWS infrastructure optimization, and financial cost management, as well as hands-on experience with AWS services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor and analyze AWS usage and spending patterns to identify opportunities for optimization and cost savings.
  2. Develop and implement strategies to optimize AWS resources, including rightsizing instances, leveraging instance reservations and Savings Plans, and optimizing AWS storage and networking configurations.
  3. Monitor AWS Infrastructure performance and utilization, proactively identifying and resolving performance bottle necks and inefficiencies.
  4. Implement tagging and cost allocation methodologies to track spending and allocate costs accurately.
  5. Implement automation scripts and tools to streamline AWS provisioning, deployment, and management processes.
  6. Design and implement automated processes for cost reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  7. Collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure AWS resources are aligned with application requirements and performance goals.
  8. Stay updated on cloud pricing models, cost management tools, and best practices in FinOps.
  9. Investigate cost anomalies and discrepancies to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  10. Prepare and present reports and recommendations to management on AWS optimization initiatives and cost savings opportunities.
  11. Assist the AWS Infrastructure team on tasks pertaining to that team.

Skills:

  • Strong technical expertise in AWS, including proficiency with AWS services and management tools.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cost management and optimization tools such as AWS Cost Explorer and AWS CUDOS.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and AWS Formation templates.
  • Solid understanding of AWS architecture principles, best practices, and security standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and identify optimization opportunities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology.
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect are a plus.

Preferred Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in cloud computing, infrastructure optimization, or related field.
