TITLE: Social Emotional Learning & Academic Access Educator

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Support

FTE: full-time, benefits eligible

FLSA STATUS:  Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

The Social Emotional Learning & Academic Access Educator will support implementation of social-emotional learning curriculum,  provide social-emotional coaching and direct small group skills instruction to K-5 students. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Provide students with executive functioning support, including help with time management, planning, and organization, as well as scaffolded academic support to complete assignments. 
  • Collaborate with teachers to share SEL resources and strategies to support students across the domains of emotional acuity, cultural responsiveness, and healthy behaviors. 
  • Identifies through observation the individual, classroom, and grade-wide social and emotional needs of students, and addresses specific trends, to design appropriate interventions and supports
  • Collaborate with teachers to address behaviors or needs when presented in the classroom, and respond both proactively and responsively.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience and/or knowledge of SEL programs
  • Three or more years of experience in an elementary school setting

  • Knowledge of: social emotional learning tools and practices, classroom teaching and learning, classroom management, collaborative teaching practices
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills: ability to maintain professional relationships with colleagues, teachers, students, and families; communicate effectively (orally and in writing); ability to work with grace and use good judgment during high-pressure situations; intercultural competence 
  • Organizational skills: ability to manage a broad scope of responsibilities; proactive, problem-solving orientation; maintain accurate records  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to move about the PJA/MJCC campus including climbing stairs 
  • Ability to sit at a computer and keyboard for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis 
  • Ability to communicate clearly with students, parents, and groups of individuals 
  • Ability to attend off-site meetings that may require reliable form of transportation

This position works under the general supervision of the Director of Student Support.
