Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Assistant Managing Editor to join our dynamic team to produce an annual list of high-quality illustrated books, graphic novels/manga, and novels.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing the editorial workflow throughout the preproduction process, including tracking manuscripts, coordinating with teams, and maintaining publication schedules.
- Review manuscripts for grammar, punctuation, and style consistency, ensuring adherence to the company's editorial guidelines and standards.
- Verify the accuracy of information, citations, and references in manuscripts to uphold the integrity of our publications.
- Conduct thorough reviews of layouts, proofs, and galley copies to identify and address any errors or discrepancies before final publication.
- Hire, manage, and evaluate freelance copy editors, proofreaders, and indexers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Publishing, or related field.
- 2 years’ experience in book publishing, preferably managing editor or production editor.
- Strong copyediting, proofreading, and fact-checking skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in industry-standard publishing software (e.g., hard copy and electronically, using Track Changes in MS Word and Adobe Acrobat markup tools) and solid knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- A passion for literature and a keen eye for detail.
