Managing Editor
- $62,400 to $65,000 Yearly

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Covering and writing weekly news and feature articles for the newspaper, writing headlines and photo captions.
- Directing all aspects of the production of the weekly newspaper from initial layout through final page proofs
- Copy editing all submissions for style and errors; overseeing line edits, proofread/copyedits, and trafficking of all pages; checking corrections; conducting final edits
- Reviewing material submitted for publication for potential legal implications in text, such as libelous statements and misstatement of facts, and ensuring conformance with Riverbay Corporation’s by-laws and applicable Riverbay Board of Directors’ resolutions
- Working directly with the editor-in-chief and reporters to develop stories for the weekly and online editions, including brainstorming/pitching story ideas, assigning articles, and working with the production staff as they design and produce pages
- Managing relationships with freelance writers and photographers
- Enforcing editorial deadlines, tracking story ideas and progress
- Supporting the editor-in-chief’s goals and expectations for the newsroom staff, articles published in the newspaper, and in digital and video content
- Performs other duties as required and assigned by Editor-in-Chief
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism or Communications
- High School diploma or equivalent, plus 5 years work experience in community journalism or Public Relations
Work Experience and Minimum Requirements:
- Community Journalism/Public Relations: 4 years (Required)
- Experience working with print and online journalism, including video reporting and editing, website and digital management required.
- Strong ability to problem-solve and multi-task within a challenging deadline environment and a passion and belief in quality community and advocacy journalism that engages, informs and educates.
- Production experience or knowledge a plus.
- Experience with Microsoft Office is essential, including experience with digital photography.
- Strong knowledge of InDesign, Quark Express 9, Photoshop and Adobe Premiere 5 and up.
Testing:
- Drug screening, as permitted by, and consistent with, applicable law.
Physical Requirements:
Persons performing service in this position classification may routinely exert up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This type of work will involve regular walking or standing for extended periods of time. It may involve stooping or bending. Handling and working with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
