POSITION PURPOSE: KSL TV 5 is seeking a knowledgeable, engaging Traffic Reporter/Multimedia Journalist with skills including reporting, shooting, and editing. The Traffic Reporter provides timely and useful information to commuters each morning on-air and online through digital/social posting. The Traffic Reporter must also be able to master the traffic computer system. The right candidate will also possess skills to turn reporter content for later newscasts.

This is an in-person role that requires the employee to regularly work at our Salt Lake City site.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily Traffic Reporting [4:30-8:30 a.m.]
  • Provide on-air traffic reports through use of traffic cameras, computer generated graphics, cellphone reporting, monitoring of police scanners and use of internal Bonneville resources. 
  • Maximize use of traffic computer system for optimum storytelling
  • Maintain active and engaging presence on social media/digital channels as traffic authority in Utah
  • Daily News Reporting [9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m.]
  • Shoot, produce and edit news stories from various sources as assigned.
  • Contribute to news coverage by pitching or enterprising potential stories, with a priority given to stories related to transportation and driver safety.
  • Write copy for on-air quickly, clearly and accurately
  • Cultivate and maintain news sources
  • Present news in a concise, conversational and accurate manner on-air
  • Update / rewrite story scripts for online publication
  • Effectively and appropriately use social media to present stories via all available media channels.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, including producing daily midday newscasts or fill in assignments on a case by case basis.
  • Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Work effectively in a team environment and maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management, and clients.
  • Consistently work hours required. Work more when required to meet deadlines, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays under deadlines

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to work with moderate supervision, confidential information and be a self-starter.
  • Capable and willing to resolve unexpected problems and be flexible to perform unscheduled assignments.
  • A high level of proficiency with computers, software and new technologies.
  • Ability to handle high stress environment and meet deadlines.
  • Highly familiar with the benefits and shortcomings of all types of media including, but not limited to “heritage” media as well as all types of current and emerging social and digital media.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and proven ability to safely drive personal vehicle without exposing company to serious liability risks.
  • Possess excellent oral, written, presentation and interpersonal skills.

COMPENSATION:

$60,000 - $90,000. Salary to be determined by multiple factors including, but not limited to, evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data.
