JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the Electronic Resources Librarian oversees the development, delivery, marketing, and assessment of the Library's collection of electronic resources and its website. Also performs work in technical services, user support, and user education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Develop and Maintain Electronic Resources

  • Provides leadership in the identification, implementation, assessment and marketing of Library technologies that enhance access to resources and services.
  • Maintains and administers a variety of hosted environments, websites, and other digital systems and services through which users locate information.
  • Troubleshoots technical issues with electronic resources and coordinates fixes with vendors, Library staff, Information Technology staff, and users.
  • Manages the Library's digital repository and promotes its use.
  • Participates in collection development of online resources.
  • Works with Information Technology and vendors on Library technology needs.

Teaching, User Support, and Outreach

  • Provides technology and database training to staff.
  • Teaches in the user education program, including creating online tutorials.
  • Creates collaborative relationships with faculty, students, and staff in support of campus teaching and learning.
  • Staffs the Information Desk and assists users with circulation, reference, research, and technology questions.
  • Serves as subject librarian to a variety of academic departments.
  • Promotes the use of electronic resources.
  • In consultation with University Counsel, provides guidance to colleagues and users on copyright and fair use.

Technical Services

  • Catalogs library materials and assists in interlibrary loan and document delivery.
  • Performs acquisitions and book processing tasks in the absence of technical services staff.

Assessment

  • Collects and reports data to measure the effectiveness of the electronic resource collection.
  • Determines student and faculty needs through focus groups, surveys, and other methods for obtaining user feedback.
  • Performs assessments to ensure that resources meet ADA and other accessibility requirements.
  • Performs diversity and inclusion audits of electronic resources and discovery tools.
  • Regularly checks electronic resources and discovery tools to ensure proper access, test search features and links, and confirm that content matches expectations for coverage.

Professional Development and University Service

  • Develops knowledge and skills through continuous professional development.
  • Keeps current on electronic resources management, copyright, and scholarly communications.
  • Serves on University committees, task forces, and working groups.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Able to be flexible with schedule and accommodate the terms of the NULTA Librarians' Contract, such as working some weekends and evenings.
  • Possess strong technology skills and the ability to manage the Library's web content and the software platforms that deliver electronic databases to users.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and implement new information services and technologies.
  • Able to support and train patrons and Library staff to use electronic resources.
  • Able to communicate with others effectively.
  • Able to present a positive attitude, work cooperatively as a team member, and place top priority on customer service.
  • Able to function in an evolving environment, being responsive to changing systems and user needs.
  • Commitment to participating in the maintenance of an inclusive and accessible Library environment that reflects the diversity of our community.
  • Commitment to University service and professional development.

ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to remain in a stationary position about 50% time about and able to move around the building the other 50% of the time.
  • Able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a phone, calculator, copy machine, and printer.
  • Able to shelve books weighing up to 3 pounds and occasionally move a book cart weighing up to 50 pounds.

    QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master's Degree in Library Science accredited by the American Library Association.

    • Must have the level of technological acumen that will enable the employee to successfully manage and troubleshoot the platforms used in the delivery of the Library's electronic resources.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working in an academic library.
