MARKETING - COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST


PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Marketing & Communications and Vice President of Marketing & Experience, the Communications Specialist will be responsible for partnering with the Brand Strategist to define and implement the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid South’s current and future marketing and communication strategies.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports Marketing Strategy For The Association - Alongside the Executive Director and VP and the Brand Strategist, the Communications Specialist will implement and oversee integrated brand and marketing strategies, policies, and initiatives to meet organizational objectives across a wide range of programs and services.
  • Task Management - Prioritizes work within the Marketing Department following the direction of the VP of Marketing & Experience and the Executive Director. Uses Asana (project management tool) to manage Marketing Requests and works with other team members and designers to track progress of work, informing stakeholders of the status of their request.
  • Execute Communications Strategies - Execute communication strategies unique to a variety of stakeholders including members, program participants, donors, volunteers, community members, etc. to provide relevant and timely information and improve engagement, awareness, and overall experience. Represent the voice of the customer within the organization, bringing your insights to address and improve the customer experience.
  • Creative Design - Create content for email marketing, social media, and other internal needs following YMCA brand and voice guidelines.
  • Social Awareness - Assist with efforts to create a best-in-class social media presence that empowers stakeholders to spread the brand virally. Working alongside the Creative & Brand Manager, will help support the association social calendars and help respond to consumer questions and present professionalism across all platforms.
  • Maintain & Grow Digital Presence - Support and develop best practices for the YMCA Website and other Digital Properties. Work alongside the systems team to continue developing best practices for Online Sales and Program Registrations, to improve the member experience.
  • Voice of the Brand - Bring the YMCA brand to life and promote the Y as community-focused organization to the press and public; Continue to develop and strengthen the association’s image to build brand and nonprofit awareness, relevance, reputation, and esteem among target audiences.
  • Collaborative - Actively collaborate with leaders across the association to support goals and objectives for a variety of programs and services and support the overall mission of the organization.
  • Research & Optimization - Understand and interpret research and market dynamics for use in optimizing strategy and/or gaining efficiencies and developing new programs to best meet key business, sales, and revenue objectives.
  • Promote the YMCA Mission - Develop strategies to connect current and future donors to the YMCA mission and promote a culture of giving and volunteerism.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Education in marketing, communications, business, or relevant field preferred (or equivalent industry experience)
  • 3-5 years experience in marketing, communications or public relations
  • Graphic/Creative Design experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Canva, or similar
  • Exceptional written, oral, presentation, and editing skills
  • Innovative thinker and creative problem solver.
  • Ability to be flexible, self-motivated and positive, and to respond to the dynamics of a changing environment.
  • Has integrity; committed to ethical conduct and the YMCA mission.

  • Experience developing high-level marketing and brand strategy in line with the strategic vision of the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience leading digital marketing programs and content development, including but not limited to website, search engine optimization, social media, and email marketing.

WORK SCHEDULE:

The schedule for this full-time position is generally Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, though overtime, evenings, and weekend work may be required depending on the business need.


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
