Job Description

Position Overview

The Director of Finance is responsible for the development and maintenance of all financial systems and fiscal records, including the monthly close and annual audit. The Director of Finance is also responsible for developing and assuring implementation of accounting policies and procedures to ensure financial transactions are executed and documented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and funder requirements. This position manages the accounting team and leads the annual budget and forecast process, working closely with the budget managers to develop and maintain project budgets and ensure projects stay on track. This role is full-time and reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of accounting operations, including the monthly and year-end closes.
  • Supervise Senior Financial Manager and Accounts Payable Coordinator, providing oversight, coaching, and development for all supervisees.
  • Oversee all transactions related to general ledger, receivables, payable's, payroll, capital assets, prepaid expenses and all bank transactions, including vetting and approving all payments via credit card and bill.com.
  • Responsible for analyzing NICHQ's financial position, comparing it to the budget, investigating variances and making recommendations to executive management.
  • Lead the company-wide annual budgeting process and supports the Senior Financial Manager in helping project managers through their budgeting and financial planning process.
  • Responsible for creating monthly and annual forecasting throughout the year to ensure optimal financial performance.
  • Work closely with the COO and management to make timely adjustments to budget as dictated by changes in funding, staffing, expense planning or other unplanned activity.
  • Prepare and distributes a standard monthly reporting package for senior management, including budget vs. actual variance analysis for the current month and year-to-date, balance sheets and cash management reports.
  • Responsible for cash management activities including the review of invoices prior to mailing and ensuring that products and services revenue figures are accurate.
  • Ensures that contracts and bills are reviewed monthly in accordance with terms of respective contracts.
  • Ensure that records are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and funder requirements.
  • Verify that all financial reports required by funders are completed, accurate, and submitted on time.
  • Responsible for annual audit including preparation of all supporting schedules and coordination with auditors. Responsible for 990s and regulatory reporting for IRS, insurance audits, health audits, etc.
  • Review payroll process, reporting and record keeping as it pertains to benefits maintenance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business or accounting strongly preferred; a CPA is a plus.
  • Experience managing federal and state grants and contracts is required.
  • Strong attention to detail as well as the ability to see and communicate the big picture.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a focus on customer service.
  • Ability to function independently within a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Excellent organization skills and demonstrated ability to develop timelines and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Extremely reliable and trustworthy.
  • Flexibility and a sense of humor are a plus.
