Futures Without Violence (FUTURES) is a national non-profit and social change organization that works to end violence against women and children in US around the world. We’re a team of educators, strategists, trainers and grassroots organizers who develop programs that can change social norms, prevent domestic violence and create the conditions and experiences that children and adults need to heal and thrive.

DEPARTMENT & POSITION:

Reporting to the Vice President of Communications, the Social Media Specialist is an exciting new in-house role that will support digital storytelling for FUTURES, with 50% of time supporting the soon-to-be-launched Courage Museum.

This position will be instrumental in our efforts to retool our social media presence, engaging and growing FUTURES’ audiences across its social media platforms with content that is aligned with our communications strategy. The ideal candidate is a creative digital native, who is passionate about advancing social justice and ending gender-based violence. They should have experience in the rapidly evolving digital environment, and work well in a data-driven, learning culture.

The candidate should be a problem-solver who can thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, with individuals who are passionate about FUTURES’ mission. They should also be self-motivated and goal-oriented, with the ability to manage content across multiple channels simultaneously.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordination/Administrative:

  • Coordinate FUTURES social media calendar and work across departments – including Policy and Advocacy, Museum, Public Engagement, Development and Program teams – to curate content
  • Provide analytics on performance (new followers, impressions, reach) and report out on which content is having the most success in engaging audiences and achieving our goals
  • Execute approved advertising/boosting strategies to expand reach, grow followers, and drive actions

Develop and post social media content:

  • Manage the scheduling and posting of all social media content based on editorial priorities identified by FUTURES Communications and Museum teams
  • Create original content, including graphics, text, and/or short-form video, for multiple social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and any emerging FUTURES’ channels such as Threads and TikTok, etc.) – tailoring content to each platform, rather than simply cross-posting the same content
  • Curate and post content from external sources, such as news links and partner posts, on topics relevant and most engaging to our audiences
  • Staff key Courage Museum and other events (in-person or online) to capture assets for posting, such as photos, video clips, and quotes
  • Develop occasional social media toolkits to be used across FUTURES, with partner organizations, and individuals for targeted campaigns

Build and increase audience reach and engagement:

  • Monitor all social accounts and platforms daily
  • Manage social media interactions/engagement and continue to grow reach by following other accounts, sharing/retweeting content, and responding to comments and DMs as appropriate
  • Build lists of influencers and organizations aligned with FUTURES’ mission on various platforms, and interact to encourage them to amplify FUTURES’ content to their followers

Other:

  • Back-stop and support other communications efforts as needed during staff absences or all-hands-on-deck moments
  • Rapid response and support for real-time storytelling around events during occasional off hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • BA/BS in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field
  • At least 3 years of relevant, full-time experience, preferably on a campaign or in an advocacy or fundraising environment
  • Avid social media user and previous experience in creating content for various channels, especially Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and TikTok
  • Proficient in a Microsoft Office environment and in basic design software (such as Canva)
  • Must thrive in a fast-faced, diverse environment focused on innovation, teamwork, and results
  • A passionate storyteller who can incorporate equity principles and is comfortable with sensitive topics that can include issues such as abuse, trauma and violence
  • Experience with Adobe Suite and video production a plus

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position.  The pay rate for this position is $36.05 hourly, annualized at $75,000.  This salary is based on a standardized compensation structure that is transparent across the organization, and is non-negotiable but eligible for step increases in future years. FUTURES offers excellent medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus tax-advantaged Flexible Spending Arrangements for Health Care and Dependent Care. FUTURES employees can take advantage of generous sick and vacation benefits including 13 paid holidays, 3 weeks of vacation for the first 3 years, 12 days of sick and safe leave per year, and an employer-contributed 401k retirement plan.

FUTURES welcomes applications from people of color, indigenous people, LGBTQ individuals, and other communities that have been marginalized and disproportionately impacted by violence and abuse. FUTURES maintains a diverse and dynamic workforce and is committed to providing equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment and promotions without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, veteran status, age, national origin, disability, or any other basis protected by federal, state or local law.
