JOB TITLE: Social Media & Marketing Associate

REPORTS TO: Director of Marketing

JOB LOCATION: Snow Drive

POSITION SUMMARY

The Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS) is looking for an enthusiastic and creative Social Media & Marketing Associate to help bring the Greater Birmingham Humane Society’s (GBHS) brand to life through various digital, print, and video elements. This work will contribute to the GBHS brand by designing and creating various content and assets for all internal and external brand campaigns.

Key elements of this role include managing the social media accounts for GBHS and assisting the Director of Marketing (DOM) in the planning and executing marketing strategies throughout the year. Some graphic design experience is a plus. Along with assisting the Director of Marketing in day-to-day tasks, this role’s main responsibilities will be identifying and understanding the GBHS Community (Target Audiences), developing compelling messages and content that engages our stakeholders, delivering the content to the community and managing interactions, social media management, website updates, photography, event execution, and other duties as assigned.

The ultimate goal of the Social Media & Marketing Associate is to enhance the GBHS brand and build strong online communities through Internet and social media platforms.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure brand consistency while offering fresh and innovative social media solutions that push the boundaries and help to shape the GBHS brand moving forward.
  • Analyze campaigns and translate anecdotal or qualitative data into recommendations and plans for revising website, social media, content marketing, SEO, and social advertising campaigns.
  • Develop and expand community and/or influencer outreach efforts.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports on web traffic and ROI.
  • Train internal teams to integrate and maintain a cohesive social media strategy.
  • Stay up to date with new digital technologies and social media best practices.
  • Answer social media questions and comments in a timely manner.
  • Conceptualize and aide in the design of a wide range of collateral for marketing, fundraising, outreach, and volunteer programs.
  • Prioritize multiple running projects with the Director of Marketing, delivering final deliverables on-time.
  • Interpret and apply feedback from Director of Marketing, Director of Annual Fund and Special Events, and both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Review final deliverables with an exacting eye, ensuring that graphics and layouts meet the highest standards.
  • Photograph various animals for social media and other marketing materials
  • Publish and manage original, high-quality content.
  • Monitor the GBHS’ social media accounts and offer constructive interaction with users.
  • Become an advocate for the GBHS; monitor, listen and respond to users in a “Social” way while solving problems and cultivating donors of time and money.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Marketing

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Social Media Management, or other relevant degree program preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience
    1. As a Social Media Strategist or Social Media Manager
    2. With some web design and publishing via Squarespace or other comparable software
    3. Sourcing and managing content development and publishing
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios.
  • Working knowledge of MailChimp, Hootsuite, Social Media Management, and their typical functions a plus.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and possess an ethic of accountability in the workplace and providing excellent customer service.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written skills
  • Ability to identify target audience preferences and build content to meet them.
  • Excellent multitasking skills and superior time management.
  • Team player with the confidence to take the lead and guide other employees (e.g. content development, creation and editing of content, and online reputation management).
  • Demonstrates winning Social Customer Service techniques such as empathy, patience, advocacy, and conflict resolution.
  • Commitment to GBHS mission and values
  • Vehicle and valid driver’s license and must be willing to use them on occasion as job duties require

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Full-time, salaried, non-exempt, 40 hours per week, typically during regular office hours 8:30-5:00 pm but with the understanding that some weekends or after hours work may be required
  • Employees may be asked to work extended hours or on weekends and holidays without much advance notice on occasion.
  • Must be able to work with and around animals of all types (cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, etc.). May have exposure conditions such as animal feces, urine, etc. and foul odors.
  • May be exposed to animal dander, parasites and infectious diseases than can be carried and transmitted by animals.
  • Must be able to work in an environment that provides humane euthanasia to animals.
  • Requires the physical mobility to sit and walk for moderate periods of time and to occasionally carry or lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Meets minimum general requirements for GBHS employment as set forth in GBHS employee handbook.
