Your Impact:

In collaboration with department management, the primary responsibilities of the PR & Marketing Communications Manager are to develop and execute communications and marketing strategies that deepen engagement; attract media attention; support contributed and earned revenue goals; and expand relationships in our community. All of these strategies should be deployed in support of institutional goals for engagement and earned and contributed revenue. This person reports to the Senior Director of Media and Community and provides support to the VP of Marketing & Sales and Senior Leadership. This is a full-time, exempt position.

What a day in this role looks like:

Marketing Communications 

• Develops content for marketing and communications campaigns and collateral to ensure that it is consistent with the organization's brand.  
• Serves as primary content creator for website, advertising, newsletters, organizational materials, and presentations to include graphics, videos, photography, and copywriting.
• Supports the overall content creation strategies for The Tech Interactive. 

Media Relations

• In conjunction with department manager develops and executes media relations strategies for The Tech’s exhibits and programs that deliver media attention; drive attendance and engagement with our programs; and support goals for earned and contributed revenue. 
• Write and distribute press releases, media alerts and proactively reach out to influencers, media and beyond in order to arrange story placement on a national and global level. 
• Maintain an updated press kit, b-roll and photo archive and media monitoring.
• Provides monthly reports to leadership.
• Owns the media section of the website.
• Develops and manages the organization's influencer marketing campaigns.  
• Serves as a key member of the Crisis Communications team.
• Updates the public relations crisis plan, and, with the VP and other members of the leadership team, lead execution of the plan in the event of a crisis or emergency. 
• Provide support for executive communications, such as speeches and presentations and interview preparation. 

Other duties as needed.

Key Qualifications:

• Strong writer and editor with an excellent radar for voice and tone, and the ability to modulate their own writing style to match.
• Gifted storyteller with a proven ability to iterate stories across platforms on behalf of a organization or brand.
• Good organizational, planning, and coordination skills.
• Desire to take full ownership of assigned projects and can work independently.
• Possesses a sense of urgency; is self-motivated and detail-minded.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships.
• Good verbal presentation, group dynamic, and facilitation skills.
• Proactive approach in resolving problems and issues.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, strategic communications, or equivalent work experience.
• Three to five years of PR & Communications experience.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Cision, and web content management systems experience.

Nice to Have:

• Community relations experience. 

Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000
