Job Description

What we’re looking for:

Aviation Week is seeking a dedicated Military Space Editor to spearhead its daily coverage of the expanding military and intelligence activities in space, focusing on the United States, its allies, and adversaries. Based in Washington, DC, this role entails collaborating with fellow military, space, and technology editors, as well as Aviation Week's data and analytics team, to curate comprehensive information concerning satellites, launches, ground systems, and sensors. The objective is to facilitate connections between buyers and sellers while fostering engagement within the global community.

The ideal candidate for this position is a versatile individual capable of reporting on breaking news, crafting in-depth features, contributing value to podcasts, webinars, and live events, and integrating analytics into reporting with the assistance of data and analytics teams. Essential qualifications include strong writing skills, a digital mindset, and proficiency in digital platforms. Moreover, the chosen candidate will play a pivotal role in expanding awareness of the Aviation Week brand and its core values within emerging sectors of the industry, including startups and non-traditional aerospace players. The candidate for the role needs to be based in the Washington DC area due to the hybrid working schedule.

Role Accountability and Duties:

  • Gathers intelligence on military and intelligence space systems, focusing on areas such as positioning, navigation, and timing; domain awareness; strategic and tactical communications; remote sensing; access to space; and battle management command and control, space control.
  • Produces compelling and analytical articles and features that provide context and information for Aviation Week's aerospace industry audience.
  • Generates digital contentand articles for publication both online and in print.
  • Engages in Aviation Week podcasts, webinars, and events to contribute insights and analysis.
  • Collaborates with team members to increase traffic and cultivate the audience for Aviation Week's content.

Qualifications

What you bring to the team:

  • Minimum of 3years of journalism experience, with a preference for aerospace focus.
  • Prior newsroom and daily coverage experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher education preferred.
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication skills.
  • Awareness of social media and SEO practices.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Demonstrated success in gathering information.
  • Willingness and desire to travel as necessary.
  • Self-motivated and capable of taking initiative.

Additional Information

The salary range for this role is 75k-80k based on experience.
