Job Description

Organization Overview: Breathe PA helps residents of western Pennsylvania achieve and maintain optimal lung health through education, prevention, and direct services.

Responsibilities and Qualifications: The External Affairs Specialist provides support to organization-wide communications, branding, marketing, donor development, and partnership management for the leadership team under the direct supervision of the Executive Director.

Responsibilities include:

Communications  

  • Initiate, develop, and oversee relationships with key contacts in media, community, academia, government, nonprofit organizations, and the private sector through communications programs that create measurable value for the business, protect and enhance our brand, engage and influence stakeholders.
  • Develop new ideas and communication in partnership with the leadership team to maintain and advance the organization’s mission.
  • Manage the organization’s website , online store, and serve as the organizational liaison to external contractors who support the website.
  • Support blog writing, event calendar planning, organization’s online store, and other website updates
  • Coordinate twice annual organization newsletter.
  • Create multimedia content to enhance the organization’s visibility on a plethora of media platforms.
  • Plan and execute Breathe PA events to include management of event budget, sponsorship opportunities, and logistics. 

Branding and Marketing

  • Manage content creation and editorial calendar for organization’s media outlets and key events, including researching, developing, writing and editing across mediums, message development and creative message management.
  • Support the leadership team in raising awareness to Breathe PA’s mission, programs, and visibility within the community.
  • Lead the organization’s branding assessment and future planning.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Donor Development

  • Support the Executive Director in donor development and stewardship to increase planned giving.
  • Support the twice annual donor appeal letter writing and dissemination.
  • Support the Executive Director in developing, cultivating, strengthening, and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders who actively support the organization’s mission.
  • Work closely with the leadership team to identify and cultivate funding opportunities.
  • Assist in organizing fundraising events and maintaining relationships with donors and sponsors.
  • Plan and execute events such as conferences, workshops, and awareness campaigns to engage stakeholders, raise funds, and disseminate information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Executive Director

Qualifications: The ideal candidate is creative, highly organized, a stronger writing, a problem solver, enjoys managing multiple projects with demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, meet multiple concurrent deadlines, has excellent communication skills, enjoys working with team input, has a sense of humor and has the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of media relations, communications planning, and nonprofit experience preferred
  • Excellent writing skills with strong copy-editing skills. Comfortable with the ability to concisely distill complex scientific or technical information into clear messaging that is accessible to a wide range of audiences
  • Proficient in  Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience working in CRM and managing websites platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Highly organized with effective project management and time management skill
  • Works efficiently under pressure; meets deadlines; demonstrates strategic thinking and uphold a dedication to the mission of Breathe PA.
  • Personable, enthusiastic, self-motivated professional
  • Ability to obtain and maintain State and Federal clearances as required for this position.
  • Understanding of Breathe PA policies procedures mission goals objectives and organization values as acquired through organization handbook written policies and on the job site experience
