Job Description

Position Summary:

Pyxis Oncology ('PYXS' or 'Company') is seeking an experienced Controller, reporting to our SVP and Chief Accounting Officer. This individual will be responsible for leading the accounting operations, managing Pyxis Oncology's accounting policies and procedures positions on a range of accounting topics, implementing SOX, providing support to clinical, CMC, medical and research teams from the Finance side, and managing a team of accounting professionals. This role leads all accounting operational functions, assesses internal control and accounting systems. The candidate will be responsible for the consolidation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results, in collaboration with FP&A, prepare monthly financial statements for senior management.

Location: Remote

Travel: 0-10% of domestic travel

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead accounting operations, provide controllership and accounting expertise to the Company.
  • Oversee the monthly and quarterly close processes.
  • Drive improvements in existing and new reporting systems to increase efficiencies, enhance processes and reduce reporting timelines.
  • Maintain current accounting policies and procedures that ensure the highest level of operational efficiency for business units; providing improvements or efficiencies when and where needed.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate internal controls and compliance with US GAAP.
  • Implement SOX 404(b) including auditors' review, when applicable. While SOX is currently not applicable, so maintain 404(a) internal control procedures.
  • Provide support in the quarterly and annual SEC filings including Form 8-K, 10-K, 10-Q, Proxy etc.
  • Provide leadership on technical accounting matters and work closely with CAO and Director of SEC and Technical Accounting in implementing new accounting standards and, accounting pronouncements.
  • Improve efficiency of existing financial systems.
  • Administrate stock plans managing all employee equity programs, including service and support to PYXS employees as needed.
  • Facilitate the education and training to the finance organization and/or broader organization as needed, on all financial operations.
  • Lead and direct planning and coordination of external audit and quarterly reviews and ensure timely and successful completion of quarterly review and annual audit.
  • Manage tax filings, tax provisions on quarterly and annual basis by coordinating and working with external tax service providers.
  • Work closely with departments outside of accounting for proper project and clinical accruals.
  • Develop business partnership with Research & Development organization.
  • Experience with financial management of CMC agreements.
  • Oversee and monitor vendor payments and procure to pay process, expense reimbursements and treasury activities.
  • Develop business partnership with HR team.
  • Collaborate with HR on payroll and other employee related financial processes.
  • Effective leadership, people management, communication skills, and a "hands-on" management style to establish credibility and confidence within and outside of the Company.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS/BA in Business, Accounting or Finance with an MBA, CPA or equivalent postgraduate qualification required.
  • 10+ years of experience in accounting and finance
  • Biotech experience required.
  • Prior experience as controller is preferred.
  • Prior experience of working with NetSuite is preferred and experience on Coupa is desirable.
  • Experience at a "Big 4" public accounting firm is preferred.
  • Ability to navigate and thrive in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment.

The full-time, annual starting base salary for this position is estimated to range between $177,000 to $225,000 (USD). The final compensation package offered to a successful candidate will consider a number of factors including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, education, skills, qualifications and certifications, business needs, and market conditions.
