Who we are
Founded in 2008, the News Literacy Project is a national nonpartisan education nonprofit that empowers educators to teach middle and high school students how to sort fact from fiction in the digital age. Our central offering is the Checkology® virtual classroom, an online e-learning hub. Since the platform was introduced in 2016, more than 50,000 teachers have registered to use it in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, four U.S. territories and more than 100 other countries. We are seeking a dynamic individual to lead professional development for educators. About the position
NLP is expanding its efforts to help meet the urgent need for districts and schools to provide news literacy education. The senior manager of professional learning will join our research and design team to develop and deliver engaging, relevant and actionable news literacy professional learning to educators across the country.
NLP’s professional learning programs are a mix of in-person and live virtual events and on-demand online programs. Your primary responsibility will be developing and facilitating news literacy professional learning programs for educators. Travel will be required for this position as determined by scheduling of events, including district workshops, conferences and one staff retreat per year.
We’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running, is passionate about education and can work collaboratively as well as independently.
This position reports to the senior director of education design.
Specifically, in this job, you will:
- Present and facilitate professional learning sessions covering a variety of news literacy concepts for educators — in virtual and in-person settings.
- Develop assessments, feedback surveys and other tools that measure key metrics.
- Collaborate on the design and development of NLP’s professional learning offerings with other key members of the research and design team.
- Facilitate and participate in education events, conferences and special events as needed.
About you
Competitive candidates for this role will have all or most of the following:
- Significant experience developing and facilitating in person and online professional learning workshops for educators that enhance classroom practice.
- Formal experience as a classroom teacher — particularly in middle school or high school, and especially experience teaching news literacy, journalism or related fields.
