Multi-Media Journalist

Hourly Wage: $15.74-$17.72/Regular/Full-Time


Selects and plays music recordings, reads scripted announcements, leads talk shows, leads on-air interviews, reads on-air scripted news and information. Accepts news assignments or makes suggestions for news reports. Gathers information, investigates topic, develops, and writes news script for review and approval. Work requires fieldwork, telephone, or electronic means to conduct news interviews, which is prepared for multiple news media forms. Presents radio news reports to the audience in a clear, engaging, and professional manner. This involves promoting news shows, reading news scripts, and introducing news segments. Works closely with program administrator to ensure that news content is concise, informative, accurate and adheres to journalistic standards.


Examples of Work Performed:

Reviews and plans radio playlist that ensures music follows accepted age-suitable standards.

Writes and/or reads scripted announcement information relative to radio listeners.

Carries live scheduled program on-air show in an efficient, audience engaging and professional manner.

Fill in for other program staff as needed, requested, or directed.

Prepared to fulfill duties by working non-regular hours or workdays is requested or directed.

Stay up to date with current events and conduct research to gather information for reports. This can involve conducting interviews with sources, attending events, and reading relevant documents.

Conduct interviews with newsmakers, experts, or individuals relevant to the news stories. Prepares interview questions, leads the conversation, and elicits meaningful insights or information from the guests.

Writes/scripts news reports for media administrator review and approval.

Works as part of a team, collaborating effectively with media staff. Communicates with program administrator to ensure that stories are accurate and professionally scripted or written.

Maintains a professional image both on and off work to ensure to build and maintain journalistic integrity.

Adhere to journalistic standards of ethics and integrity. This means reporting the truth, being impartial, and keeping personal interests from influencing produced reports and scripts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Proven radio or relevant role work experience.

Knowledgeable of music genres based on listener variety preferences.

Proficient in the use of radio equipment, software, and programming.

Communication and writing news reports skills and ability.

Capable of professional interaction with staff, agencies and public.

Able to conform to multiple forms of media work productivity.

Hold a sincere interest in professional development in journalism.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma. Competent radio or other media forum work experience. Sincere interest in professional development in journalism as a career.

Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Requirements:

On-the-job or formal training and/or education in radio programming, journalism or related field are a plus.
