Human Resources Benefits Specialist

Position Overview:

Partners with Human Resources leadership to carry out administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, 401k and Profit-Sharing plans, along with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Principal DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but not limited to:

 

Benefits

  • Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in Paycor to provide carriers with accurate eligibility information.
  • Performs quality checks of benefit data.
  • Assists team members regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
  • Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and verifies eligibility.
  • Enrolls team members with carriers and assists with life status updates.
  • Responds to benefits inquiries.
  • Processes and administers all eligible leave of absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
  • Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absence and disabilities.
  • Responds to 401k inquiries from team members relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts.
  • Manages annual 401k Catch-Up contribution enrollment.
  • Manages 401k enrollment process.
  • Provides necessary reporting and census for allocation and billing.
  • Assists with annual benefit plan analysis, review, and selection.
  • Assists benefit annual enrollment.
  • Coordinates team members benefit annual open enrollment through Paycor and hands-on data entry process.
  • Communicate, implement, promote, on-going maintenance, and continuous improvement of team member vacation and holidays.
  • Process team member's separation from the company including notification of benefits termination and qualification for COBRA, ending commission plan, etc.
  • Provide expert communication of FMLA, ADA, COBRA, FSLA and other labor legislation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Education, Certification, Computer and/or Experience:

BS/BA in Human Resources, or related field with minimum three (3) years Human Resources Benefits Specialist experience required. Human Resources experience must include strong benefits administration, onboarding, culture development, employee relations, and employment law. Must be highly proficient in PayCor with PayCor certification preferred, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Must be able to manage multiple benefits tasks in an environment of frequent interruptions while prioritizing responsibilities. HIPPA certification required.

 

Communication Skills:

Excellent verbal and written English language skills are required, Spanish is a plus. Must be comfortable interacting with team members, providing excellent customer service, as well as public speaking, and instructional/teaching. Ability to read, interpret, understand, and explain documents such as company benefits. Ability to provide responsible interpretations of local/state/federal employment law (i.e. OSHA, FMLA regulations, etc.) Ability to create and critique all necessary information pertaining to company benefit forms, documents, reports, and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to others, gather information from others, and respond appropriately to questions from team members, managers, co-workers, agents, customers, and the public. Must be able to present training workshops to managers and team members. Must be able to listen, assess and diagnose hidden meanings, and empathize. Must display excellent phone and email etiquette, and the ability to communicate in a pleasant and friendly manner. Must be able to make eye contact and present appropriate persona for the situation when interacting with fellow team members.

Must be able to maintain strict confidence regarding sensitive and protected personnel/confidential information. Must be able to gain and maintain trust, respect, and confidence of team members and managers. Must be able to hold firm, when necessary, provide constructive feedback, and compromise when called for. Must present in a clean and neat physical appearance and strictly abide by company dress code serving as a role model for other team members, customers, and visitors.

 

Mathematical and Reasoning Skills:

Must have ability to understand and communicate basic math associated with benefits issues as well as perform and verify necessary math calculations as they pertain to support, clerical, benefits, and issues, i.e., 401k deferrals, health insurance, team member time off calculations, invoices, etc. Must solve practical problems without close supervision. Must be able to determine appropriate resolution in dealing with team member concerns and questions and set appropriate boundaries. Must possess good thought processes, problem-solving skills, and investigative theory. Must be able to use sound judgment and make objective decisions in the company's best interest. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to synthesize people and events, problem solve, and engage individuals in effective conversation.

The team member must frequently reach with hands and arms and talk or hear, especially in the telephone, computer, and meetings. The team member is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The team member may occasionally lift and or move up to 35 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus to read written company forms, correspondence, policies, brochures, state/local/federal employment law manuals, and other documents and reading materials as well as the computer.

 

Work Environment

The primary work location will be in the office. There may also be occasions when the team member will be expected/able to perform duties at home such as reading professional and/or research materials, making and accepting phone calls, composition of forms, correspondence, reports, etc. on the computer. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate in the administrative office and moderate in the warehouse.
