SUMMARY: The New Business Account Manager is responsible for generating new customers and product lines, developing sales, business strategy, and customer management for all retail and food service sales for Sterman Masser Inc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • New business generation
    • Maintain and grow volume, new products, and profits with current and new customers year-over-year.
    • Work with EVP of Sales and VP of New Business Development to identify and seek new business opportunities for SMI, KPP Food Service, and ACA products to bring new customers on board.
    • Create a strategy to communicate with prospective customers.
    • Present to prospective customers by phone, Teams, or in person.
  • Out of office events
    • Attend trade shows, new customer meetings, and other activities as assigned.
  • Manage day-to-day order activities.
    • Take responsibility for certain assigned accounts.
    • Be responsible for all order entry. This includes all order communications with outside packers (direct loads).
    • Handle issues and concerns with customers in a timely manner. Never tomorrow.
    • Send outside BOLs to our shipping department when supplying our products to other shippers. (ex. Golub, RPE, etc.)
    • Track certain customer actions, i.e. Rejection reports, credit reports, and rebate trackers.
    • Coordinate with production for changes to orders or last-minute orders that come in.
    • Send weekly pricing and other long-term bids in a timely fashion.
      • Quote ALL possible products, not just those they are currently buying.
      • Update pricing on customer's buying web portals.
    • Send weekly crop updates to each of your customers.
    • Communicate daily regarding order processing and delivery with customers, production, and logistics.
      • Schedule delivery appointments and coordinate any special requests with logistics.
      • Communicate with customers if the truck is going to be late - before the delivery appointment time.
    • Coordinate the handling of all rejections, short-shipped products, and any issues with packaging.
    • Answer incoming phone calls.
  • Packaging
    • Take responsibility for all new packaging requested by customers.
      • Communicate with the Marketing Manager and pass off all creation tasks to MM.
      • Take overall responsibility to ensure tasks are completed in a timely fashion.
    • Communicate all packaging needs with Sales Management, SMI Packaging buyer, and production.
  • Invoicing
    • Assure that invoicing is up to date and complete on a weekly basis and close out month-end invoicing by the 8th of each month after shipment.
    • Manage account receivable issues, filing claims for late payments and unauthorized deductions.
  • Outside of office duties
    • Take weekend on-call shifts as assigned. If an assigned weekend doesn't work for you, find someone to trade with.
    • Handle any urgent customer issues as necessary.
  • Office Coverage
    • Take care of any customer assigned to you when a fellow team member is out of the office.
  • Coordination with customers once they commit to take new products.
  • Lead plant tours when asked.


QUALIFICATIONS TO SUCCEED:

  • Analysis: ability to analyze complex marketing and price factors.
  • Ability to work independently on projects and contribute as an active member of a team.
  • Excellent Power Point & Excel skills.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Driver's License required.
  • Specific experience with potato sales is preferred; general produce experience considered.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage multiple accounts.
  • Ability to analyze consumer trends and evolving category demands.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
