The California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) is a non-partisan, non-profit statewide organization founded in response to the 1996 passage of federal immigrant and welfare laws that profoundly affected immigrants. CIPC develops and supports pro-immigrant public policies aimed at improving the quality of life for all Californians. CIPC also provides technical assistance, training, and education on immigrant justice issues. Its mission is to uphold the humanity of immigrant communities in California by transforming systems to achieve racial, social, and economic justice.

 

POSITION SUMMARY


Job Title: Senior Communications Specialist

Location: Los Angeles, CA. Hybrid schedule. Requires travel throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area (vehicle and driver’s license required).

Term: Full-Time, occasional evenings and weekends required

Position Status: Exempt

Pay Range: $73,950 to $76,186

Reports To: Communications Director

 

The Communications Associate will provide critical support developing and disseminating strategic messaging, compelling news and information about CIPC’s work. The ideal candidate would have outstanding writing skills including excellent spelling, punctuation and grammar; would be well-organized; highly attentive to detail; and work well under tight deadlines.

CIPC’s Communications Department helps develop messaging, serves as the organization’s strategic storyteller, and social media and website content creator. The communications team works with CICP staff and external partners to produce relevant, compelling written, visual, news and digital content geared to diverse audiences across a wide range of platforms. The communications associate would be integral to the department's production of clear, cohesive, persuasive and error-free content that advances our goals.

 

Responsibilities

  • Managing content creation and copywriting for development and advocacy campaigns for various platforms;
  • Leading organizations annual impact report;
  • Cultivating media relationships, writing news releases, coordinating press coverage, documenting media inquiries and outcomes, and tracking CIPC media mentions;
  • Collaborate with Communications Director and department supervisors to develop and implement strategic communications plans;
  • Reviewing communications assets for adherence to the CIPC communications style guide, voice, branding and messaging;
  • Proofreading to ensure communications materials are error-free and meet style standards;
  • Documenting requests for support, keeping apprised of current communications projects/tasks and facilitating weekly team meetings;
  • Attending meetings with other departments and/or outside coalition and campaign partners as necessary;
  • Preparing quarterly reports quantifying communications requests, work performed and outcomes;
  • Developing and maintaining an archive of communications assets and materials;
  • Performing basic tasks such as taking notes, assisting in staging press conferences, documenting CIPC events, background research and meeting preparation; and
  • Other projects and duties as assigned by the Communications Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and/or Experience – Minimum Bachelor’s degree; minimum four years of journalism and or nonprofit advocacy communications experience
  • Considerable experience in persuasive writing, editing solicitation letters, scripts, and other communications materials
  • Experience with video editing, photography, and graphic design in Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Experience managing vendor relationships
  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects, and prioritize well;
  • Comfort in fast-paced environment
  • Excellent persuasive communications skills (written, visual, oral)
  • Proficient in AP style
  • Experience with and knowledge of computer operation; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Special Requirements – occasional overnight travel within the state is required
  • Approaches others in a tactful manner; reacts well under pressure; treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; accepts responsibility for own actions; follows through on commitments
  • Results-Oriented; Ability to set goals and implement them to achieve results
  • Proficiency in non-English languages spoken by Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, African, Caribbean, or Arab communities is a plus
  • Passion for the mission of CIPC to uphold the humanity of immigrant communities in California by transforming systems to achieve racial, social and economic justice

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS


Salary Range: $73,950 to $76,186

 

CIPC is a unionized workplace and is represented by Immigrant Advocates United-United Auto Workers. This position is in the bargaining unit and is covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. CIPC provides a comprehensive benefits package to its employees:
