On Site Copy Chief Needed

The Sears Wellness Research Group, the world’s leading alternative health publishing group, is looking for a new Copy Chief with experience reviewing and editing direct response copy.

We have successfully attracted over one million daily readers and provide excellent service to thousands of subscribers who read our publications, subscribe to our newsletters, and use our products every day.

Our Copy Chief is a franchise builder, using his or her own talent to help others create fantastic copy that will outperform the competition.

You will lead the charge as we go out and get our company’s next million subscribers. And write some of the best direct response copy along the way.

We need a team player who can take charge and produce sales copy that converts. In this role, you are reviewing all print and online project materials to ensure that we produce editorial and sales copy that accurately reflects the voice and philosophy of one of the country’s premier anti-aging MDs, Dr. Al Sears.

Job Responsibilities

· Review all copy written by the team.

• Define and enforce voice and style standards that improve the consistency and effectiveness across the team.

· Manage a vast array of writing projects, supported by a full-time copy trafficker.

· Lead the research of products and ingredients to find the Big Idea, supported by an experienced internal and a contracted research team.

· Write, structure and complete fresh and effective sales copy from start to finish.

· Develop metrics and reporting to track progress and identify trends.

· Effectively estimate level of effort and turnaround timelines for each request.

· Help prioritize requests based on need and impact.

· Consistently complete quality deliverables on time.

· Build strong relationships with a variety of content developers, writers, and copywriters who have a wide range of writing skills.

· Ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established formats.

· Follow company style manuals, among other resources.

· Direct style or content questions and issues to editors or supervisor as needed.

· Provide guidance to writers, editors, etc., regarding style questions.

· Make sure all the copy editors are kept up to date with the above rules and regularly check their work for compliance with them.

· Be prepared to answer any questions of style or grammar.

· Write headlines, summaries, captions, pull quotes, etc.

· Edit stories of all types

· Constantly refer to reference materials to verify facts and spellings in stories.

· Identify stories that need major revision, possibly recommending that they be held.

· Critique each piece of copy.

· Bring attention to consistent problems, such as a writer who keeps making the same mistakes, or a style rule that is repeatedly violated.

· Ensure that all copy editors are effectively utilized and receive ongoing training.

· Attend weekly calendar meetings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or other relevant degree.

• Proven professional experience in editing documents.

• Ability to work under tight deadlines.

• Computer proficiency.

• Experience with digital and print media.

• Familiarity with AP style or The Chicago Manual Style.

• Deadline oriented.
