SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, INVESTOR RELATIONS

POSITION SUMMARY

Shine Associates, LLC has been retained to search, identify and recruit a Senior Vice President, Investor Relations to work in all aspects of investor relations, research, and new capital raising on behalf of our client ("Company"). This position will be based in either their San Francisco or Denver offices.

CLIENT DESCRIPTION

Our client is a real estate investment management company that specializes in middle market opportunistic, value-add, core-plus, and Opportunity Zone private real estate investments. The firm currently has $3.2 billion of gross real estate assets under management through ten discretionary fund vehicles. The Company is currently investing its fifth opportunistic fund, its second Opportunity Zone fund, and its first core-plus fund. It also has an affiliate which manages investments in public real estate securities through a flagship commingled hedge fund vehicle as well as Separately Managed Accounts.

The Company manages capital on behalf of institutional investors, family offices and high net worth individuals. The core of its private investment strategy is investing in joint ventures with experienced operating partners. Working closely with our partners, the firm employs a disciplined investment approach focused on low-cost basis, risk mitigation, value creation, and multiple exit strategies to seek superior risk-adjusted rates of return to its investors. The Company invests in primary and secondary markets throughout the U.S. with a focus on the multifamily, single-family build-for-rent, lodging, industrial, retail, residential land, and office sectors.

Our client is based in Wayne, PA (suburban Philadelphia) with regional offices in San Francisco, CA and Denver, CO.

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT - INVESTOR RELATIONS

The Senior Vice President, Investor Relations will be a key member of the team and be responsible for the fulfillment of both internal and external components of the private capital fundraising and investor relations processes. The position will report directly to the firm's two Co-CEO's/Managing Partners and will also be responsible for the management of the existing three-person Investor Relations team at the Company. The position will lead capital raising efforts with prospective investors, consulting firms and other advisors. The Senior Vice President will also be responsible for industry research, the oversight of RFPs/DDQs, new product development initiatives, and other internal capital raising support functions.

In addition, the individual is expected to be involved with covering existing client and consultant relationships. This will include working closely with the firm's existing investors to ensure a high proportion of additional investment capital from those clients in subsequent product offerings. It will also include collaborating closely with the Finance & Administrative team. This individual will also be expected to work with the Investor Reporting team to update investors with traditional quarterly financial and other reports including the firm's own research information.

The Company's Investor Relations team is also significantly involved in the new product development process, the procurement of new investors, and the preparation of targeted product offering materials including private placement memoranda and marketing pitch books. The individual must be able to provide senior level input as well as overall product marketing plans and client/prospect coverage.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and execute on strategic fundraising plans to source new clients through extensive research on investors' and their consultants' activity in the middle market space (with a focus on the cultivation of new institutional investor and RIA relationships)
  • Service existing investors, prospective investors, consultants and advisors
  • Coordinate with the Head of Investor Relations of real estate hedge fund affiliate for the cross-selling of investment offerings across the two (private real estate and public securities) platforms
  • Oversee the response to information requests from investors and consultants, including regular updates to consultant databases
  • Schedule and lead initial investor meetings
  • Manage the existing three-person Investor Relations team which includes a Vice President, Associate and Investor Relations Coordinator.
  • Oversee fund annual meetings and advisory board meetings
  • Write public market media releases and investor communications regarding new/exited investments
  • Oversee and coordinate the updating of Company's website and marketing materials
  • Support new capital raise initiatives
  • Assist in the production of the Private Placement Memorandum (PPM)
  • Produce the marketing presentation, with input from other team members
  • Oversee and coordinate the completion of investor due diligence questionnaires
  • Maintain due diligence portal
  • Be able to clearly articulate the firm's strategy to prospective investors
  • Assist in preparing for investor meetings and presentations
  • Provide support for investor closings i.e. side letters and investor documentation
  • Participate in investment pipeline calls, read all investment memos to enhance knowledge of the firm's investments and be able to effectively communicate the transactions to prospective investors
  • Support new product development

  • Work with Legal and Compliance departments for review of regulatory compliance for materials produced, but understand regulatory compliance issues as it relates to investor marketing

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

The candidate will need to be results-oriented and extroverted with a sincere interest in networking, maintaining and creating new investor connections. It is imperative the individual is able to garner internal and external support and contribute to the firm's credibility and brand positioning in the market. The candidate must be comfortable working within a matrixed role in a geographically dispersed team. The successful candidate should also have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of investing in private equity real estate.

Lastly, the individual needs to be a team player, likeable, detail and process oriented, demonstrate leadership and management experience, have an intellectual curiosity, be willing to travel extensively, and be a strategic thinker.

Knowledge & Experience:
  • 7-10+ years of relevant experience with investors in real estate, private equity capital raising or other alternative investment class
  • Investment/analysis/accounting experience in real estate industry is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills
  • Able to work independently, handle multiple priorities and apply good judgment
  • Exposure to and knowledge of capital markets
  • Ability to think and write strategically
  • Demonstrate self-confidence with senior management and investors
  • Excellent technology skills and the ability to learn and utilize new software programs
  • Excellent skills in Powerpoint and Excel
  • Ability to work with and gain support of other departments in a positive way


Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $250,000 - $275,000. In addition to base salary, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus, as well as a competitive benefits package. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.
