VisionPoint Marketing is a full-service marketing agency that specializes in higher education marketing. Our clients are higher education institutions of all sizes and missions from all across the United States. 

As part of our growth strategy, and in support of our vision to become the country’s most sought-after enrollment marketing and solution provider for higher ed, we’re seeking an experienced Director of New Business Development to lead our sales team. The purpose of this position is to grow VisionPoint’s revenue and business opportunities by leading (as well as personally executing) VisionPoint’s sales efforts with new clients.

We’re looking for a strategic thinker with an analytical mind, strong problem-solving skills, outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and experience driving a growing sales team in the higher education market.

What You Will Do
  • Develop and implement a business development strategy alongside the Chief Client Officer focused both on financial gain and client satisfaction which fits within VisionPoint’s short and long-term vision.
  • Facilitate and lead sales discovery, evaluation, proposals, pitches and related initiatives, from start to finish.
  • Seek out (alongside a BDR resource), recognize, evaluate, pursue and close new business opportunities with new prospects in order to achieve annual revenue and profitability goals.
  • Create thoughtful, well-crafted proposals and presentations which align with VisionPoint’s values and process, and follow-up and establish collaborative rapport with a prospect’s identified decision-makers, ultimately converting prospects into client partners.
  • Leveraging our CRM capabilities, track and report metrics (e.g. new business and existing business sold, weighted pipeline, closing rate, etc.) which indicate the sales team’s progress toward quarterly and annual sales goals. Be accountable for adjusting tactical execution of the sales strategy as needed to meet or exceed your goals. 
  • Manage and inspire the sales team aka Business Development team in order to elevate the quality and success of work performed, deliverables and results while balancing the well being and long-term success of your team.
  • Through outreach as well as through conference attendance, lead efforts to develop relationships and partnerships that position VisionPoint as thought leaders and innovators within the national higher education marketing community. 
  • Study and maintain a keen eye on the competitive landscape and market trends, actively keeping VisionPoint’s Leadership Team informed of goings-on, trends, opportunities, threats, etc. which may impact our business, positioning and ability to serve our clients. 
Experience and Education
  • Minimum 4-year bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, journalism or other applicable field of study or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years in business development or sales within a fast-paced agency environment.
  • Demonstrate excellence in written and verbal communication as well as listening skills.  
  • Demonstrate an understanding of VisionPoint’s core offerings: integrated marketing, website redesign, campaign management, creative, SEO services, and CRM consultation.

You Must Also: 
  • Demonstrate the ability to actively listen and identify opportunities to leverage VisionPoint’s expertise to help a client achieve their goals and then clearly communicate how that can be accomplished. 
  • Be a fast learner and have a passion for sales and marketing.
  • Be able to travel a moderate amount when necessary, sometimes evenings and weekends. 
  • Demonstrate creativity and a willingness to solve problems where there is no pat answer. 
  • Be internally motivated, driven and goal-oriented.
  • Demonstrate empathy for clients, team members, etc. 
  • Be optimistic and take the attitude that most problems can be solved. 
  • Actively contribute to VisionPoint culture.

  • Experience selling digital marketing services.
  • Experience in – or selling to – higher education.
  • Experience evaluating and thoughtfully responding to public RFPs.
