Job Description

I. Introduction
The purpose of the Human Resources Department is to provide strategic, administrative, and operational expertise relating to the employees and internal staff. Human Resources facilitates and oversees policies, programs and practices that address employees and employment related issues and to align those objectives with the initiatives of Speaks Law Firm’s operational and financial objectives. 

II. Purpose 

The purpose of the Human Resources Manager is to oversee human resources related issues and to assist in maximizing the firm efficiency through strategic planning, talent management, workplace compliance and performance management as it relates to employees. 

III. Major Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Participate and provide input for firm organizational strategy development and long-term succession planning. 

  1. Oversee talent acquisition and recruiting efforts. Collaborates with leadership to assist in identifying gaps in talent and staffing. Creates best practices in hiring strategies. 

  1. Develop and own the performance management process; working with leadership and managers to train and assist in implementation of performance management policies.  

  1. Function as a key record keeper for the human resource information systems (HRIS); payroll, performance management, learning & development, or other systems as needed. 

  1. Work collaboratively with Operations Director to formulate and oversee the compensation structure. 

  1. Function as the primary department employee relations and employee well-being and building strategy for employee engagement. 

  1. Responsible for managing employee investigations and maintaining records for best practice workplace conflicts or investigations. 

  1. Manages the learning development process through recordkeeping of training and staff career development. Work with Operations and Legal to create learning, development, and career progression tracks. 

  1. Oversees and administers benefits and works with carriers and vendors to maintain. 

  1. Oversees onboarding and offboarding/termination processes and works with managers to ensure best practices and compliance. 

  1. Conduct HR metrics reports and communicate findings to leadership. 

  1. Collaborate with Operations to develop and maintain current job descriptions and update as needed. 

  1. Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance. 

  1. Works with Finance department to develop and maintain department budget. 

  1. Plans and executes firm wide events and activities  

IV. Controls 

The Human Resources Manager works under the direct supervision of the Operations Director to provide professional and subject matter expertise. The Human Resources Manager oversees and manages other human resources staff. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. 

V. Physical Requirements 

The Human Resources Manager must maintain the physical condition necessary to perform tasks in an office setting such as operating a personal computer, keyboards, and other peripheral equipment. Periodic travel is required to other firm office locations for training and development and oversight purposes. 

VI. Required Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities 

1. Ability to manage and work with a high level of confidential material and information. 

2. Strong problem-solving and time management skills. 

3. Professional tact and diplomacy to develop the confidence and trust of employees. 

4. Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills. 

5. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 

6. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. 

7. Intermediate level working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 

VII. Education and Experience 

1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration, Psychology, or related field required.

2. A minimum of 6-8 years of experience in a Human Resources capacity. 

3. A Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience. 

4. Working knowledge of federal and state laws and/or acts including but not limited to: ADA, HIPAA, COBRA, and wage & hour guidelines. 

5. Maintain Society for Human Resources Management or Professional in Human Resources certification. 

IX. Benefits
Paid Time Off (PTO) 3 weeks per year to start. Medical, dental and vision. 401k retirement plan.
Salary: $55,000 - $65,000.00 per year
