Department:     OperationsPositions Supervised:  Operations (Fermentation and Dry Production), Engineering, Maintenance, LogisticsFLSA Status:       Exempt (40 hrs/week)Reports to:   CEO 
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
The Director of Operations is the strategic leader across all CSL USA, manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, warehousing and logistics, production scheduling, and operations departments. Reporting directly to the company CEO, the Director of Operations provides strategic, financial, and tactical direction of the operations team in line with our mission, vision, values, strategic plan, and financial objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements reflect the general details necessary to describe the major functions of this position and are not intended to be a detailed description of all the work/functions that may be required. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Own the company’s manufacturing operations to include overall operations strategy and budget for departments and functions mentioned under General Purpose of Job above
  • Drive a culture of accountability and results through effective management
  • Manage the CAPEX projects within operations including identifying, justifying, budgeting, engineering, and implementation
  • Implement lean manufacturing/production principles throughout the organization
  • Manage engineering resources, projects, and priorities  
  • Manage the costs of production including labor, equipment expenses, and capital
  • Propose solutions to support the strategic initiatives, including timing, cost, and ROI
  • Implement productivity projects to continually reduce overall costs and optimize working capital
  • Participate in strategic planning activities
  • Strategic view of the organization and facilitate the creation of strategic processes that align with the organization’s culture to drive core and strategic processes to respond to the needs of customers with minimal waste
  • Gathers and prioritizes projects and allocates resources according to diverse criteria such as strategic importance, cost/benefit, the likelihood of success, and stakeholder engagement
  • Mentor and manage direct staff and oversee talent development initiatives
  • Manage inventory by working with the CEO, Controller, Director of Quality, and VP of Sales and Marketing to ensure customer demand is met
  • Maintain knowledge of new manufacturing technology and processes
  • Knowledge and technical understanding of fermentation science and microbiology
  • Working knowledge and experience of a matrix management system
  • Ensure that operations is working in closely with Sales to meet customer demand, timelines, and company revenue targets 
  • Contribute as a member of the Executive Management Team providing leadership and solutions across all areas of the operation
  • Must demonstrate a Hungry, Humble, Smart attitude and teach it to your team 
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by CEO

QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. PhD or master’s degree preferred.
  • Degree in engineering, microbiology, biotechnology, fermentation science, or related field preferred. 
  • 5+ years of managerial level operations, production, and manufacturing experience.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience and managing a diverse team.
  • Solid understanding of budgeting, business planning processes and key business metrics.
  • Must have a working knowledge of facilities, utilities, equipment, operations, and management.
  • Proven proficiency with Microsoft Suite of products, operations planning software, ERP systems and other related technology products.
  • Willing to travel and work on a global operations team.
