Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Financial Reporting and Analysis, the Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing the functions of the revenue accounting department, cash collection and reconciliation from the branch locations, operating and capital campaign pledge and payment activity and reconciliation, and appropriate support for all audit and compliance responsibilities. This position requires a high level of individual contribution (management reporting, financial analysis, and planning), including the support to16 Greater Boston YMCA branches and a network of business managers at each branch.
General Responsibilities:
- Responsible for accounting and analysis of consolidated revenue and associated balance sheet accounts including accounts receivable, contributions receivable, and deferred revenue. Analyze all deferred revenue for revenue recognition.
- Manage Accounts Receivable for all branches including analysis and review of collectability. Assist all business managers and branch executives with Accounts Receivable issues. Prepare if necessary and review and process journal entries submitted from Branches and Association Offices
- Preparation of monthly reconciliation, analysis and reporting of certain financial schedules and reports.
- Supports the reconciliation and recording of endowment activity. Reconciles investment statements and prepares investment journal entries. Monitors accounting for endowments, prepares and reviews journal entries, ensures endowment accounts are reconciled and recorded at fair value. This position assists in maintaining and supporting the endowment system.
- Assist with the Financial Statement Audit, and the Single Audit as Required by OMB Circular including preparation of the Schedule of Federal Expenditures (SEFA). Support the annual preparation of the Uniform Finance Report (UFR) and State Audits, as required.
- Act as back-up for weekly posting and reconciliation of the Revenue Posting from the CRM (Spirit) to general Ledger (SGA)
- Maintain Capital Campaign transactions, payments, and Transmittals.
- Assist with submission of Bank Drafts
- Provide Bookkeeping Services for YMCA Shared Services responsible for recording a company’s financial accounts and records. Their duties include checking accounting records for accuracy, tracking invoices and payments and maintaining a system for organizing company documents.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Three to five years’ experience in a corporate accounting/finance department of a medium to large-sized organization (minimum of $25 million in revenues) including operational accounting.
- Understanding of the financial closing cycle, journal entry preparation, and transaction processing.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong foundation for development and continuous improvement of existing policies, procedures, and internal control systems within revenue, accounts receivable and cash administration practices.
- Preparation of internal management reports (revenue, cash, contracts, pledges, accounts receivable).
- Knowledge of medium to large scale accounting (general ledger) and other software application (e.g. point of sale systems).
- Work closely with the financial development office for all campaign pledge and payment activity.
- Positive people and management skills for development of assigned staff with ability to work in teams and independently.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Other Preferred Experience:
- Knowledge of corporate financial statements and generally accepted accounting principles, (e.g. GAAP format and understanding of endowments, not for profit accounting
