Job Description:
Primary duties
Directing and monitoring all aspects of multi-discipline planning, preliminary engineering, and final design projects. The candidate must have sound technical knowledge with the ability to lead rail-related works. They will be involved with the production and coordination of several projects concurrently, be responsible for fostering client relations and leading marketing, contractual, design and production tasks. They will be required to interface with clients, and Federal, Local and State government contacts for projects located anywhere within the US.
- Lead a varied and challenging range of projects and contribute to the continuous growth of the Rail and Transit team with the career progression opportunities that this brings
- Manage activities related to Rail and Transit projects throughout development phases from feasibility study to commissioning and handover ensuring that the works are undertaken safely, meet quality standards, within budget and schedule
- Direct designs including development of plans and specifications
- Engage with clients, conveying an in-depth understanding of the Rail and Transit arena to identify opportunities to advise and support them in resolving their key issues
- Ensure that designs adhere to necessary federal, state, and local standards and laws,
- Develop new business through technical proposal development, networking, specialized service offerings, client interaction, conference participation and professional reputation
- Develop project proposals including scopes and budgets and interfacing/negotiating with clients.
- Mentoring and development of junior staff and design team members
- Demonstrate clear and concise, verbal and written communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to coordinate meetings, resources, and presentations
- Availability to support the TYPSA Group Railway Department in overseas projects
Job Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):
- Minimum Education: BSc, BEng, or equivalent. Advanced degree MSc, MEng a plus
- Licensing/Certifications: California P.E. and eligibility for licenses in additional US States
- Minimum 15+ years of experience with design, construction and project management of rail and transit facilities with at least five years of experience with North American rail and transit agencies. Experience with agencies such as LA Metro, Metrolink, CAHSR, OCTA and SANDAG
- Complete working knowledge of US Railway regulations and standards
- Qualified professional who has reached the manager level; capable of providing planning, leadership, direction, and technical expertise to manage complex tasks and multi-discipline projects
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with capacity to effectively communicate thoughts and ideas to peers, senior staff, and clients
- Travel required when necessary, including the potential for overnight stays up to 3-4 nights a week.
- Experience with common software for industry
- Experience with international infrastructure projects and alternative delivery methods a plus
- Valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier
Working Conditions and Environment:
This position will require general supervision and will have to use independent judgment within established guidelines. Generally, uses advanced knowledge to analyze, interpret, or make deductions from varying facts or circumstances.
Will need the ability to establish rapport quickly with others working on the same project and be able to promote a positive team environment. Working knowledge of dealing with a diverse population while using tact, diplomacy, and respect.
