ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND/CULTURE

The Detroit Economic Growth Corporation is a private non-profit organization leading the economic revitalization efforts for Detroit, the most exciting urban recovery in the country. The DEGC works closely with the City of Detroit and other partners to support existing businesses and bring new companies and investments to the City. The DEGC designs and implements innovative solutions that drive investment, create jobs, and build the economy through strong public-private collaborations. The DEGC's commitment to integrity, transparency, and professionalism permeates the organization and undergirds our stature as the economic development authority for the City. The DEGC provides staff services to Detroit’s public development authorities, including The Downtown Development Authority, The Detroit Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, The Economic Development Corporation, The Eight Mile Woodward Corridor Improvement Authority, the Neighborhood Development Corporation, the Local Development Finance Authority, and the Tax Increment Finance Authority.


SUMMARY OF ROLE

The DEGC is seeking an experienced and nimble candidate to join our organization as a Visual Identity Manager. The Visual Identity Manager is a key marketing and communications team member responsible for creating engaging graphics and designs based on DEGC's brand identity. These designs will be shared across various mediums to amplify DEGC's story and increase awareness of our work among our community stakeholders and the businesses we serve.

The Visual Identity Manager will need a creative flair and a strong ability to present complex messages in a visually appealing manner. The ideal candidate will elevate DEGC’s work by capturing the attention of our target audiences and conveying messages in beautiful and intuitive designs.


KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and maintain a strong visual identity for DEGC, ensuring consistency across all marketing and communication materials.
  • Create engaging and informative graphics, infographics, and visual content for digital and print platforms, including social media, websites, presentations, and reports.
  • Manage and update DEGC's website properties, including content creation, UI/UX design, and technical maintenance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop and execute design projects that align with DEGC's mission and objectives.
  • Optimize website performance, user experience, and search engine rankings through regular audits and improvements.
  • Manage design project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Stay current with the latest design trends, technologies, and best practices to improve DEGC's visual presence and web properties continuously.
  • Integrate brand design across different organizational functions and programs.
  • Serve as team lead and internal point of contact for program and organizational brand guidelines, ensuring consistency and adherence.
  • Ensure visual design and messaging are compatible and complementary in finished products.
  • Assist with the development and execution of digital marketing campaigns and initiatives.
  • Work closely with program leads to design collateral to promote upcoming events.
  • Work with the marketing and communications team to brainstorm innovative ways to present and communicate the benefits of our services to our stakeholders and the general public.
  • Assist DEGC staff in preparing presentations and reports that adhere to DEGC's brand and messaging guidelines.
  • Track projects and report to the team and director to assist in updates to leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, fine arts, or visual arts (or equivalent professional experience).
  • A minimum of 2-3 years experience in graphic design.
  • 1-2 years experience as a brand manager is a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365.
  • Demonstrable graphic design skills and experience with a strong portfolio.
  • Strong working knowledge of design software and technologies (such as Canva, InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop).
  • Must have a keen eye for aesthetics and details.
  • Working knowledge of WIX and WordPress.
  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS and JavaScript is a plus.
  • Experience curating content for newsletters and other business communication.
  • Must possess a solid understanding of effective marketing techniques.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with data management and communication platforms, including Smartsheet, Salesforce, Constant Contact, or similar platforms.
  • Must be comfortable working through ambiguity to find solutions and achieve desired results.
  • Well organized, with the ability to navigate challenging organizational and procedural hurdles to produce real results under tight timelines.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining focus in an environment with conflicting demands and priorities.
  • Passion for Detroit's economic development and a commitment to promoting the city's growth and success.
  • Must be able to take complex information and communicate clearly and concisely, tailoring writing style to the audience.
  • Must be a driven self-starter, creative thinker, and problem-solver who can work independently.
  • High aptitude for and interest in customer service and problem-solving.
  • Must have strong time-management, administrative, and organizational skills, allowing you to excel under pressure and in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and work effectively with individuals, strengthening relationships to achieve the best possible solutions.
  • Ability to receive and understand directions, ask appropriate questions, and manage time to work effectively and independently.
  • Experience interfacing with internal and external stakeholders and diverse clientele.
  • Ability to engage in frequent, independent travel throughout Detroit.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule (evenings and weekends) occasionally, with notice, to attend special events and programs.
WORK LOCATION:

DEGC is currently operating on a Hybrid schedule. Candidates should know that all employees must do in-person work at least twice a week. This in-person work includes but is not limited to reporting to the DEGC office, community engagement, and in-person meetings. DEGC reserves the right to terminate the Hybrid work schedule for any individual or all employees at any time, at its sole discretion.

COMPENSATION:

A competitive compensation package will be provided to the successful candidates. The salary range depends on experience and is accompanied by a full range of benefits.
