The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire multiple full-time Firefighter/EMT (Paramedic Preferred) to lead and improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Fire Department. Firefighter/EMT (Paramedic Preferred) earn a competitive salary of $60,438.83 - $68,024.43/year, based on average 2756 hours, depending on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. We also offer a retirement plan through the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a 2:1 employer match, life insurance, disability, access to the city's recreation fitness center, employee assistance program, educational assistance, 11 paid holidays and 1 designated paid holiday (24 hours), paid vacation, sick leave, and an active wellness program focusing on physical, mental, and financial health.

Qualified candidates will be contacted and invited to test. Testing will be held at the Fire Administration Building located at 2703 Veterans Drive, Pearland, TX 77584.

  • Optional PAT Run-through (Practice) - at Fire Training Field (2703 Veterans Drive, Pearland, TX 77584): 6/15/2024 at 9:00am.
  • Written Test - at Fire Admin Building (2703 Veterans Drive, Pearland, TX 77584): 6/22/2024 at 8:00am (doors close at 8am and no applicant will be allowed entry after this time).
  • PAT - to be conducted immediately after the successful passing of the Written Test on 6/22/2024.
  • Out-of-State Applicant Interview Panel - to be conducted after successful passing of the Written Test on 6/22/2024.
  • In-State Interview Panel - at Fire Admin Building (2703 Veterans Drive, Pearland, TX 77584): 6/24/2024, 6/25/2024, 6/26/2024, 6/28/2024 (dates dependent on number of qualified candidates).

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications outlined below to be considered for employment:

  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent
  • Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Firefighter Certification, or reciprocity from another state
  • Texas Department of State Health Services Emergency Medical Certification, or reciprocity from another state
  • Must be able to pass an online behavioral assessment, written test, physical agility test, interviews, background investigation, NFPA physical and drug screen, and breathe alcohol screening.

Salary: $$60,438.83 - $68,024.43 annually, based on average 2756 hours. Paramedics may be eligible for certification pay of $207.69/biweekly. Education, experience and additional certification pay may be considered.

Candidate Preference: Candidates will be selected for testing and hire based in order of the following preference:

  1. Those certified by Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) as a Firefighter and the Department of State Health Services as a Paramedic.
  2. Those certified by Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) as a Firefighter and the Department of State Health Services as an EMT-Basic.
  3. Those certified by the Department of State Health Services as a Paramedic. Must obtain TCFP Firefighter certification within 12 months of hire.
