Job Description:


The Business Development Specialist serves as the business development lead for attorneys and practices resident in the Texas and California offices, including Corporate and Litigation. The Business Development Specialist works with the Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and Orange County Office Chairs as well as the Business Development practice group managers to identify new/potential clients and to deepen our relationships with existing clients. The successful candidate will play a key role in enhancing the firms visibility in the Dallas market, working closely with local firm leadership to identify and execute upon branding and business development opportunities.

This role has a hybrid working arrangement. Potential candidates must live within commuting distance of Dallas offices to be onsite 3 days per week. In this role, the successful candidate will report to a Business Development Senior Manager.



Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Work with Business Development Managers to understand the exact strengths of each practice and work to implement business development strategies.
  • Work with Office Chairs to understand and leverage the specific strengths of the Texas and California offices and their respective practices.
  • Identify, evaluate, create, and attend branding and thought leadership opportunities in the Texas market, collaborating with other members of the Business Development team as necessary.
  • Work with the Office Chairs and individual attorneys to develop office specific marketing and business development plans.
  • Work with other Business Development team members on marketing and business development initiatives.
  • Evaluate firm clients to identify opportunities for cross-selling across practice areas and offices.
  • Develop targeted pitches and presentations as well as responses to requests for proposals (RFPs) that speak to the clients needs, concerns, and objectives.
  • Compile case and matter descriptions for use in proposals, on the website, and in Foundation.
  • Attend practice group and office meetings to learn about new initiatives and provide updates about relevant marketing and business development activities.
  • Track client development activities and new business development efforts in the firms Client Relationship Management system (InterAction).
  • Manage sponsorships of events, including preparation of marketing materials and ads, attorney registrations, and follow-up coordination.
  • Work closely with other administrative departments and colleagues (e.g. IT, practice management, etc.) to effectively serve our internal and external clients.
  • Work with the Client Events Team as needed.
  • Assist in developing submissions for surveys and directories.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Work additional hours as needed to fulfill job requirements.
  • Promote positive work habits, including effective and timely communication, teamwork, and demonstrating respect for colleagues.
  • Contribute to providing the highest quality of service to internal and external clients.
  • Take appropriate initiative and ownership of job responsibilities while ensuring the assignments/job duties are performed successfully and on time.
  • Understand and abide by firm policies and embrace firm values.
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance and work regularly scheduled hours.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time, type, and handle light lifting (files, copy paper, etc.) in a professional office environment.
  • Comply with safe work practices including compliance with the firms COVID-19 policies and safety measures.



QUALIFICATIONS:


  • 4+ years of experience in professional services business development and marketing.
  • Bachelors degree required; advanced degree (e.g., MBA or J.D.) preferred.
  • Experience in a legal environment or professional services firm required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deliver exceptional client service.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to develop positive working relationships (in-person and virtually).
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with effective organizational skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Proactive mindset, proven problem solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Unquestioned integrity and professionalism.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Proficient in web-based conference call/web-sharing applications.
