Write, prepare, and/or review copies to be used in company publications including, but not limited to magazine articles, ads, books, curricula, catalogs, press releases, fliers, brochures, marketing letters, product back-liners, scripts, CD and DVD back liner copy. Coordinate the preparation of company publications and articles with various departments. Take transcripts and write them into books and articles. Confirm facts, artwork including printer of typeface, size of type and measure of line and give final approval. Make sure all work adheres to editorial policies and standards. Evaluate content for clarity, accuracy, and consistency. May provide some guidance to staff.



PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Edit and format copy as assigned according to KCM and Associated Press style and ensuring that all writing agrees with KCM teaching.
  • Write, prepare, and/or review copies to be used in company publications including, but not limited to, magazine articles, ads, books, curricula, catalogs, press releases, fliers, brochures, marketing letters, product back-liners, scripts, CD and DVD back liner copy.
  • Research to confirm the accuracy of the content as needed, including listening to messages and reviewing transcripts.
  • Take transcripts of teaching and write books or articles for publication.
  • Write original copy as needed for product descriptions, back liner, style manual entries, etc.
  • Answer all editorial/technical questions from writers and proofreaders.
  • Ensure all copies are formatted and properly proofed.
  • Stay abreast of the ministry's direction and focus and ensures all articles/printed matter assigned reflects that focus, including a strong foundation in Word of Faith.
  • Study and master the KCM messaging and style.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with writers that fosters a spirit of integrity, creativity and sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
  • Maintain close and constant communication with the Senior Managing Editor to ensure a constant awareness of all modifications/changes that affect the creative, accurate, and timely inception, development, and execution of his/her responsibilities.
  • Conduct internal and external interviews for articles as needed. Must do research in archives, historical information, policies, procedures, current meetings, and prophecies.
  • Stay current with professional reading and market trends not only related to religious retailing but also in business, technology, book markets, video, and current world events as they relate to the Body of Christ.
  • Attend creative, comp, preplan, and mid-point meetings, as needed.
  • Assist Senior Managing Editor with enforcing new implementations regarding editorial style.
  • Ensure all writers/freelancers are up to date with changes/additions regarding editorial style and that such changes/additions are implemented.
  • Communicate across departments for project information.


Requirements:

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred, or the equivalent in verifiable experience.
  • 4-7 years of previous writing and/or editing experience preferred.
  • Prior publication experience as a writer or editor preferred.
  • Knowledge of graphic arts/printing helpful, but not required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Must have a strong command of the English language and its forms of colloquial use as it relates to publishing/journalism.
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal/oral communication skills and have legible handwriting.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to edit/write/proof.
  • Is adequately familiar with Microsoft Word, InCopy, InDesign, Excel, Basecamp, WRIKE, and any other word-processing and computer programs associated with the job assignment.
  • Monitors and prioritizes assigned jobs accordingly and maintains constant communication with Senior Managing Editor to ensure steady and consistent workflow of copy.
  • Must know and understand Word of Faith doctrine and understand the foundations of this doctrine.
  • Must have the ability to present in print the specific teachings and voice of Kenneth Copeland Ministries with accuracy and relevant application.
  • Acquaintance with advertising law and postal regulations
  • Working knowledge of the Associate Press Stylebook.
  • Must demonstrate ability to use resources (libraries, Internet, etc.), as well as religious reference materials (concordance, expository dictionaries, lexicons, Bibles) in fact-finding.
  • Must be a self-starter who is able to think through situations and make responsible decisions.
  • Must be able to manage high volume of work and be able to switch from job to job quickly, both mentally and physically
  • Must have the ability to effectively manage delicate and/or confidential information.
  • Must be able to prioritize work efficiently, effectively manage time, and be organized.
  • Able to type 50 wpm (preferred).

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:

  • PC, telephone, copier, fax, printer, scanner
  • Resources materials, including but not limited to: KCM Style Manual, AP Stylebook, dictionary, various Bible versions, concordance, the Internet.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to sit at a computer for a minimum of seven hours per day.
  • Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, telephones, and other office equipment.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.

TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to give, receive and analyze information, formulate work plans, prepare written materials, and articulate goals and action plans.
  • Must understand vague and implicit instructions and react favorably in all work situations.
  • Must be detailed and communicative.
  • Must be task- and goal-oriented.
  • Requires the ability to multi-task.
  • Must adapt well to changing work situations.
  • Must be able to grasp and apply new ideas.
  • Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict and make effective decisions.
  • Must relate and interact with people at all levels.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Works in a normal office environment.

OTHER:

  • Born again believer and must adhere to the doctrines of this organization as upheld by Kenneth and Gloria Copeland and their appointed representatives.
  • Must work well with others, as a team and according to Romans 16:17, must not cause dissension, difficulties and divisions.
  • Must maintain a good attendance record.
  • Membership and attendance at EMIC are preferred.
  • Because of the wide range of personal contact with ministry leaders within and outside the organization, this position requires considerable diplomacy, maturity, and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work with people of all cultures.
