Overview
Creative Arts Coordinator

Position Summary: Provide leadership to the Creative Arts Center, coordinating Otterbein's creative engagement activities (including, but not limited to: fine arts, crafts, expressive arts, drama) and overseeing designated programs and events to support the creative engagement of residents in the Otterbein community. The position is based out of the Creative Arts Center (CAC) but requires mobility of operations as well, providing a social environment with numerous daily interactions.

Shift: Full-time Monday through Friday

Responsibilities
  • Provide ongoing support for, promotion of, and guidance to the Creative Arts Center and creative engagement for Otterbein residents.
  • Provide a safe and welcoming environment for residents and the outside public in the CAC
  • Develop relationships with the residents that visit regularly and, as appropriate, their family members
  • Provide needed materials for activities identified by the older adults and when teaching classes
  • Ensure that CAC "Art on a Cart" activities are available to healthcare areas, upon request
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the arts/crafts programming
  • Track participants/usage of the CAC and related programming
  • Create individual arts opportunities for older adults by request or request of family members
  • Teach and/or recruit instructors to teach creative programs
  • Manage financial operations of the CAC
    • Handle accounts payable for all CAC sales
    • Maintain inventory control for all residents' and outside artisans' creative work for resale
    • Identify community outreach opportunities to promote the CAC/creative arts program (such as festivals, art display opportunities, speaking engagements, etc.)


Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Possess a minimum of an Associate's Degree in a related field, Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Ability and experience interacting with older adults, seeking to understand their vision of artwork and assisting them to "make it happen"
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years' experience in planning, preparing and executing art-type lessons
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years' experience in supervision and training of volunteers
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years' experience in organizing special events
  • Experience in developing communication pieces (monthly calendar, flyers, OLN, etc.)
  • Must be able to multi-task and work independently
  • Must be computer literate with ability to learn new software programs
  • Excellent communication skills to work with persons of all levels of background and education as well as persons with cognitive and physical limitations
  • Must have problem solving skills and be able to make a critical analysis of situations
  • Must be able to effectively utilize creative arts center annual budget
  • Holding a current valid IN driver's license
  • Experience in using a kiln is a plus but not necessary
